GunsanTHE DREAM
The Gunsan Saemangeum Marathon, first held in 2004, takes place in Gunsan on the first Sunday of April every year;
the 2026 race was its 20th edition.
It has been registered as a World Athletics-certified international course since 2012, earned a Bronze Label in 2020, and received World Athletics Label status in 2023.
It's hosted by Gunsan City and the Korea Association of Athletics Federations and organized by the Jeonbuk State and Gunsan City athletics federations.
Gunsan Wolmyeong Comprehensive Stadium is the start and gathering point for three events: the full marathon (including the Half-and-half marathon relay), 10K,
and 5K.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.

Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
The race is on April 4, so bring an outer layer that's easy to take on and off depending on how it feels before the start,
and during the race use only fuel you've tried in training.
The full marathon and 10K are longer, so plan where you'll take water and fuel;
for the 5K, stick with clothes and shoes you know.
The race starts at Wolmyeong Comprehensive Stadium in Gunsan, so prioritize lodging with easy access to the stadium.
The day before, check the Packet Pickup location and hours, and settle your route to the stadium and how much time you need to get ready.
For the full marathon, you must be 18 or older and able to finish within 5 hours;
the 10K and 5K have no entry restrictions—choose accordingly.
For the 2026 race, each runner's bib and timing chip were sent by courier, so check that both are in the package as soon as it arrives.
A timing chip is issued only for the full marathon and 10K;
the 5K is timed by gun time, without a chip.
There's an aid station every 5 km from 5 km and a sponge station every 5 km from 7.5 km.
Change in the changing room at the assembly area and drop your bag at gear check to get a sticker;
show it after the race to get your bag back.
Valuables and cash can't be checked.
Ambulances are stationed on the course and at the finish.
For the 2026 race, the parking lot inside Wolmyeong Gymnasium and the public lot in front of the main gate were closed,
so runners parked at E-Mart, across from Donggunsan Hospital,
at the Gunsan Student Education and Culture Center, at Gunsan City Hall Public Lots 2 and 3, and at the Office of Education and Gunsan Dong Elementary School.
Shuttle buses ran to the venue from 5:30 a.m. to 7 a.m. and back from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. As of 2026, cancellations and refunds were allowed only until February 13.
Registration for 2026 opened at 10 a.m. on January 5 and closed on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you get mild cramps or fatigue during the race, get first aid, then ride the sweep bus.
