At the Albuquerque Marathon, the runner struggled with altitude and sunshine, then ran an extra 1 mile after a wrong turn. Alternating walking and running brought a finish in 5 hours, 13 minutes, and 40 seconds.

Getting to the start

NM Rail Runner Express North Valley Station (Los Ranchos/Journal Center), 101 El Pueblo Rd NE — or Montano Transit Center connecting ABQ RIDE buses with the Rail Runner in the North Valley.

Start (half marathon) is on Winter Haven Rd NW, just south of Sagebrush Community Church (6440 Coors Blvd); other distances start near Alvarado Elementary School in the North Valley/Bosque area — roughly 1-2 miles from the nearest Rail Runner/transit center, not walking distance.

Getting to the finish

Same North Valley transit points (Rail Runner North Valley Station / Montano Transit Center) as the finish is also near Alvarado Elementary.

Finish is at Alvarado Elementary Gym. No parking allowed on Winter Haven Rd itself — organizers direct participants to park at Sagebrush Community Church instead.

The Albuquerque Marathon is a running festival organized by iRunFit in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with a marathon,

half marathon (including a 2-person relay), 10K, 5K and Kids K. Course crosses the Rio Grande and follows the North Valley Bosque trails,

with long stretches set against the distant Sandia Mountains, and is billed as a flat course good for fast times.

Finishers receive a finisher finisher medal, marathon/half marathon/10K/5K participants receive a tech T-shirt, and age-group awards are given in each event.
