A day you'll remember,

The Astana Marathon is a World Athletics-labeled road race established in 2015 in Kazakhstan's capital Astana,

and a member race of AIMS (International Marathon & Road Race Association).

The first edition was held September 13, 2015, as the "BKS Air Astana Marathon." Held annually in September or October with full marathon and 10K on the same day.

⚠️ The official domain is currently expired,

and the sister site (half marathon site astana21k.com, operated by the same organizer "TOO Astana Marathon Events") remains frozen on 2023 content,

so 2026 hosting/date confirmation was not possible —

the previously-connected official_url is actually for a marathon in a completely different city (Almaty, ~1,000km from Astana),

which has been corrected.

Online registration is available on the official website from 2026-02-26 to 2026-05-22 or until the field reaches 7,000 participants,

on a first-come, first-served basis.

Entry fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

The Astana Marathon starts and finishes beside Khan Shatyr, the world's largest tent structure, in Kazakhstan's capital.

The flat, World Athletics-certified course (10K, 21K, 42K) passes the city's landmark modern architecture,

including the Baiterek Monument, the Palace of Independence, the Nur Alem Sphere and the Botanical Garden.

Getting to the start

no dedicated station name — Independence Square, Astana (Left Bank near Baiterek Tower/government district); Astana's LRT (trial since 2025) connects the airport, Left Bank city center and Nurly Zhol railway station

Note: this race is organized by the 'Almaty Marathon' organization, which hosts the Astana Half Marathon on its domain under /events/astana_half_marathon_2026/. City buses/marshrutkas also serve the square directly; parking nearby is limited (~500 KZT for a few hours).

Ticket vending machines around the city, or the new dedicated tourist transport cards sold at Astana International Airport Works directly at the gates

Alternative: Astana Airport Tourist Transport Card (multi-trip, color-coded) Orange = 5 trips for 1,550 KZT; Blue = 10 trips for 2,110 KZT; Green = 15 trips for 2,650 KZT — Worth buying if taking multiple bus trips and wanting to avoid needing a local banking app; buy it right at the airport on arrival. If only taking 1-2 rides, tapping a contactless bank card directly is simpler.

Astana's system runs on the Avtobys payment platform. Besides tapping a bank card or buying the airport tourist card, locals also pay via QR codes scanned through apps like Kaspi or Avtobys.

For a foreign runner, direct contactless bank card tap is likely the easiest option since it needs no card purchase at all.
