It is held the weekend right before general registration opens for the 2027 Boston Marathon, designed as a last chance for runners chasing a qualifying time.

petepontRan in 2025 · Finish time 2:47:47
“One other awesome thing -- because it's 6 loops, they provided personal "elite" hydration/fueling tables. So I was able to drop my bottles off on a table and grab them whenever I wanted.”

The runner met their goal at Beantown Marathon in 2 hours 47 minutes 47 seconds despite heavy rain, mud and repeated hills. They particularly liked the personal aid table on the six-lap course.

petepontRan in 2025 · Finish time 2:47:47
“I was relieved and happy.”

The runner completed six laps of Hingham's course with a Boston qualifying time as the goal. The rain, mud and repeated hills made the second half difficult, but the runner achieved the goal in 2:47:47.

We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

The Beantown Marathon is an attempt to beat the Boston Marathon qualifying record at Bear Cove Park in Hingham, Massachusetts.

It brings to the fore the goal of arranging a race on the final qualifying weekend before general registration opens in Boston.

Instead of taking a long course ride across the city, you complete the marathon distance by taking six turns on a controlled loop in a quiet park.

The structure of running the same route over and over again becomes the stage for record challenges.

Course has been certified by the American Track and Field Federation.

Bunker Alley has short sections of compacted gravel, and on some routes, participants run in opposite directions.

A loop path within the park connects Bunker Alley and Bear Cove Pass to the north and Conservatory Pass to the south.

Finish is located at a branch from the loop, and participants who have completed the last lap enter the final direction from the junction.

It is a race where the same points appear every lap, but the finish line is set aside outside the repeat section.

Participants start in groups divided based on their target completion time.

It is a method that provides an opportunity for runners aiming for similar records to run together.

Organizers describe the event as a race designed to achieve a Boston qualifying record,

and are structured to focus on competing for records within a limited participation size.

At the same time, we are also connected to fundraising activities for Boston Children's Hospital.

This is a competition where you compete against your personal records on a quiet park loop while also helping local children get treatment.

Getting to the start

No direct station at venue; nearest MBTA Commuter Rail (Greenbush Line) stations are Nantasket Junction and West Hingham, both in Hingham, a few miles from Bare Cove Park

Start/finish is a 6-loop course based at Bare Cove Park, 52 Bare Cove Park Drive, Hingham, MA (loop course, so start=finish).

Nantasket Junction station has 495 park-and-ride spaces;

from either commuter rail stop it's several miles by road/local transfer to Bare Cove Park, not direct walking distance.

Hingham also has MBTA/Boston Harbor ferry service (Hingham Shipyard) to downtown Boston,

but no source confirms it connects conveniently to Bare Cove Park for this race —

treat as unconfirmed, not used.

Getting to the finish

Bare Cove Park (same as start, loop course)

Parking is first-come-first-served in a field near the registration/baggage tents at 52 Bare Cove Park Drive.

More details

Stations & transport near the venue

Hingham, MA connects to Boston via MBTA: local buses use the CharlieCard/CharlieTicket, but the Hingham–Boston commuter ferry does NOT accept CharlieCards —

use the mTicket app, a paper ferry ticket, or contactless bank card tap instead.

Ferries depart from Rowes Wharf or Long Wharf in Boston.

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.

Bib must be picked up at the Marathon Sports Store on Washington Street in Norwell before the race.

The pickup window will not be open on game days.

Proxy pickup is possible, and you just need to check the number in the bib inquiry link received by email and inform the recipient.

Vehicles must enter the Bear Cove Park Drive entrance, pass the playground, and cross the parking lot on the left.

The event tent at the end of the tree-lined central section is the reception and luggage storage point.

From there, move to the grass area on the left and park on a first-come, first-served basis.

We will provide portable toilets in the parking lot, at the park entrance, on the road to start line, and at course.

Personal drinks and snacks can be marked with a bib star on a designated table, and participants are responsible for refilling them.

On two-way sections, you must use the aid station on the side you are running and do not cross to the other side.

If your companion enters the viewing area late, they will be instructed to follow the right side of the narrow road,

so share the viewing location and approach direction in advance.

Times are local to Hingham. Check the latest official information before the race.
