“That was when I could tell my lack of training was impacting me.”

The writer mixed running and walking at the Belleville Main Street Marathon, completing a marathon for the first time in around two and a half years. Late calf and thigh cramps meant plenty of walking, but the finish restored confidence in covering long distances.

Start/finish on Main Street near First Street, downtown Belleville, IL. Free parking recommended at Lincoln Street Garage plus three additional free city lots, all short walks to start/finish.

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.

Bib and race-material pickup takes place at two locations on the Friday before race day.

Pickup is available at Toolen's Running Start in Shiloh from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,

and at Bennie's Pizza Pub in Belleville from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Water and Gatorade are placed approximately every 3.2 km (2 miles),

while GU energy gels are available at mile 10 of the half marathon and miles 11.5, 18 and 23 of the full marathon.

The full marathon is a USATF-certified course that is eligible for Boston Marathon qualification.
