This marathon in Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan, also serves as a warm-up event for the traditional Torch Festival.

Starting at the south plaza of the Cultural Activity Center,

the course links Yi cultural landmarks including Yihai Park, Sun Calendar Park and Yiren Ancient Town.

More than 9,000 runners from nine countries take part in this highland event where the festival and race become one.

We have not confirmed the start line coordinates yet. The map shows the host city.

There are two events, full marathon and half marathon, both starting at 7:30 a.m. from the south plaza of the Cultural Activity Center.

The course follows the city’s ecological green corridor, passing Yihai Park, Sun Calendar Park and Yiren Ancient Town, a recreation of a traditional Yi village.

Entry fee starts at 150 yuan.

The 2026 race attracted more than 9,000 runners from nine countries, and the men’s full marathon set a course record of 2:21:05.

Getting to the start

Chuxiong has no metro; the nearest transit is Chuxiong railway station (on the Guangtong-Dali line) or the long-distance bus station, both a short taxi ride from the Cultural Activity Center. Local buses and taxis take WeChat Pay/Alipay QR or cash - foreign contactless bank cards are not standard, so use Didi or a taxi for race-day transport.

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

Chuxiong is about an hour from Kunming by high-speed train.

From Chuxiong Station, travel to the race venue around Yihaibei Road by city bus or taxi.

There is no subway.

At around 1,800 m, this highland city requires a more generous pace target than a flat-course race.

Early August is the rainy season, so prepare for wet weather.

Accommodation fills early because the race coincides with the Torch Festival, so book promptly.
