The European Running Championships, organized by European Athletics,

were first held in Brussels-Leuven in 2025 and will return for their second edition in Belgrade, Serbia, on 17-18 April 2027.

The event is reportedly being held over the same weekend as the 40th anniversary of the Belgrade Marathon,

giving it particular symbolic importance for the host city.

The standout feature is that recreational runners can run alongside elite athletes representing their countries on the same course,

over the same weekend, and in the same atmosphere.

While Europe's top athletes compete for continental championship titles in the 10K,

half marathon, and marathon, recreational participants race on the same stage.

The event is also substantial in scale.

More than 25,000 participants are expected for the 2027 Belgrade edition,

with a scoring system in which the top 25 finishers from each country in each event (men and women separately) count toward their nation's ranking.

Elite sport and mass-participation marathon culture therefore coexist within one event.

Typical race-season temperature: around 13°C (55°F): Short sleeves or light long sleeves + arm warmers

Trg Republike (Republic Square) tram/trolleybus/bus hub, central Belgrade

Marathon start is at Republic Square (Trg Republike), the heart of central Belgrade — a major GSP (city transit) tram, trolleybus and bus interchange, and a short walk from Knez Mihailova.

Terazije (Hotel Moskva) / Republic Square area, central Belgrade

Finish has historically been at Terazije near Hotel Moskva, immediately adjacent to Republic Square — same central transit hub as the start.

Online advance registration opens on May 11, 2026, and continues through March 31, 2027.

Entry fee uses a tiered early-registration structure, with prices increasing the later you register.

During the June 2026 early-bird period, the 10K was €45, while half marathon and full marathon were around €35;

prices for Entry fee then continue to rise through regular registration (July–August 2026),

mid-period registration (September–November), late registration (December–February 2027), and final registration (March 2027).

On-site registration is also available at Expo from April 14, 2027, but prices are set higher than for advance online registration,

so registering as early as possible is recommended.
