There is no fixed finish time limit.
However, the official sweep vehicle operates at a pace of 17 minutes per mile,
and participants who fall behind must continue the remaining distance on the sidewalk.
The finish area remains open until the last participant passes.

Applications for the 2027 AJ Bell Great North Run will be made through the official Great Run lottery, and non-winners can use the January additional lottery/official charity bib·Great North Run membership route.
