A day you'll remember,
long past the finish line.

This summer evening harbor race starts at Churchill Park in front of Copenhagen’s Kastellet fortress.

Runners complete one lap for the 5K or two laps for the 10K, passing Langelinie Pier and the Little Mermaid statue.

With ice cream waiting on the grass after the finish, it feels like a midsummer-night picnic hosted by Sparta.

The 5 km starts at 6:30 p.m., and the 10 km at 7:00 p.m. Course loops around Kastellet Fortress and follows the Langelinie waterfront,

with the Gefion Fountain and Little Mermaid statue along the route.

Aid stations with course, sports drink, and music-support sections are provided, and the top three men and women receive awards.

A bag drop and food trucks are also available.

Getting to the start

Østerport St. (S-train + Metro M3/M4), ~7 min walk to Kastellet/Churchillparken

Race starts on the grass at Kastellet in Churchillparken. Østerport station (metro + S-train) is the nearest rail hub; bus 1A and stop 'Esplanaden' are within a few minutes' walk.

Central Copenhagen harbor-front venue with excellent public transit access; no car needed.

Rejsekort (a new 'Basiskort' physical card is replacing it in 2026)

Rejsekort vending machines at metro/train stations, staffed 7-Eleven kiosks, or downloaded via the Rejsekort/Rejseplanen app Not accepted at the gates — get the local card above

Alternative: Copenhagen Card (includes public transport + 80+ attractions) — Worth it mainly if you're also sightseeing heavily; for transit-only use, Rejsekort pay-as-you-go is cheaper. Rejsekort is a check-in/check-out system — you must tap in AND out at both metro and bus/train readers or you'll be charged a penalty fare.

Direct contactless bank-card payment is reportedly being rolled out in 2026 but was not confirmed live as of this research. Copenhagen uses the Rejsekort system, though the physical plastic Rejsekort is being phased out in 2026 in favor of the Rejsebillet app, which sells single tickets and City Passes with an English interface.

Contactless bank cards are not yet accepted directly on DOT buses, metro or trains as of 2026, so visitors should use the app or buy a paper/Basiskort ticket at a station kiosk. A short single-zone ride costs a few dozen DKK.

The venue is a 7-minute walk from Østerport Station, served by the S-train and Metro lines M3 and M4, making public transportation the easiest option.

As a weekday evening race, it overlaps with the commuter rush, so allow plenty of time to arrive.

Registration is handled through Sparta, with the Entry fee starting at 240 kroner.
