A day you'll remember,

This is the 11th Chaoxiedun Marathon, starting at Jiujiufeng Hot Air Balloon Park in Caotun, Nantou, Taiwan.

The loop course links embankment roads, an old bridge, and the cycling path around Niaozuitan Artificial Lake.

It is an inland rural-road race with four distances from the full marathon to 5K, and the first edition to move to Caotun, the hometown of straw sandals.

Parking lot at Jiujiufeng Hot Air Balloon Park, Caotun Township, Nantou County

The start is at the Jiujiufeng Hot Air Balloon Park parking lot in Caotun Township,

Nantou County (南投縣草屯鎮), and the 2026 race has moved to Caotun for the first time.

Course follows roads around Pinglin, crosses the embankment route and the old Pinglin Bridge, passes Longquan Temple,

loops near the management center of the Niaozuitan artificial lake,

then switches to the lakeside cycle path before returning to Jiujiufeng Hot Air Balloon Park as a loop course.

Getting to the start

九九峰氦氣球園區停車場 (Jiujiufeng Balloon Park parking lot), Caotun Township, Nantou County, Taiwan. No public-transit instructions published — only a street address and Google Maps link.

Rural/mountain-foothill venue best reached by car or taxi. Full/half marathon starts 6:10am; 10K/5K starts 6:20am.

Foreign runners should plan taxi/ride-share from Nantou or Caotun town center.

Getting to the finish

Finish is at the same park as the start.

Convenience stores (7-Eleven, FamilyMart, etc.) and MRT/train station counters anywhere in Taiwan, including Taichung HSR/train stations before heading to Nantou Not accepted at the gates — get the local card above

Alternative: Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Sun Moon Lake Line pass / round-trip shuttle ticket Round-trip shuttle ticket NT$360 (one-way NT$193); an unlimited-ride add-on pass referenced at roughly NT$590 — Worth it only if your visit centers on the Sun Moon Lake tourist area and you'll take multiple shuttle rides in a day; for straightforward point-to-point local bus trips, EasyCard/iPASS pay-as-you-go is simpler and cheaper. Since Feb 2017, EasyCard and iPASS are interoperable on nearly all Taiwan public transport, so a card bought anywhere in Taiwan works in Nantou.

No confirmation of contactless EMV bank card acceptance on Nantou buses (currently limited to Taipei/Taoyuan Airport MRT fare gates).
