“After that, it was absolutely spectacular.”

The runner completed the 2022 San Silvestre Vallecana 10K in 1 hour 11 minutes 7 seconds. With approximately 40,000 participants, the start was slow and crowded, but the runner was impressed by Madrid's Christmas lights, music, cheering, and the atmosphere among the spectators along the Vallecas section. The uphill final 2 km was difficult, but the runner found the organization to be very efficient.

Priya Narasimhan
“This was literally the most exhilarating, fun, emotional, exhausting, yelling, singing, dancing, electric group of runners I’ve ever run a race with.”

Priya Narasimhan ran the Madrid San Silvestre Vallecana 10K and experienced the festive atmosphere of start line, the downhill and uphill sections, the cheers and music along the route, and the lights and smoke tunnels. There were no aid station and there were many participants, so preparation was necessary, but the energy of the runners and spectators made it a race filled with strong emotions and thrills.

We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

Getting to the start

Metro Santiago Bernabéu (L10) or Concha Espina (L9); also Nuevos Ministerios (Cercanías C1/C2/C3/C4/C4A/C4B/C7/C10 + Metro)

Start is on Avenida/Calle Concha Espina at Plaza Sagrados Corazones, near the Santiago Bernabéu stadium area;

these stations are within walking distance of the start.

Getting to the finish

Metro Portazgo (Línea 1)

International/elite race finishes inside Estadio de Vallecas;

the popular race finishes nearby on Calle Candilejas.

Portazgo is the closest and busiest station for finish-area crowds;

Buenos Aires, Nueva Numancia or Puente de Vallecas (also L1) are quieter alternatives.

No dedicated organizer shuttle bus found;

the city reinforces regular metro and bus service on race day and recommends public transport.

Alternative: Tourist Travel Pass (1/2/3/5/7-day, Zone A or Zone T) Zone A: €10.30 (1-day) up to €43.20 (7-day);

Zone T (whole region incl.

day-trip towns): €15.40 (1-day) up to €62.80 (7-day) —

More details

Madrid Metro rolled out direct contactless bank card/Apple Pay/Google Pay tap payment across all ~303 stations as of June 2026, so for short visits you likely don't need a physical card at all.

The Tarjeta Multi is still the better option if you want a multi-day unlimited pass, since those Tourist Travel Passes are only issued on that card.

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.

Temperatures average 4°C.

In Madrid in December, take particular care immediately after finishing: cooling sweat can quickly lower your body temperature.

Pack a warm layer in your drop bag to put on straight after the race.

For a short race, a good warm-up can make a real difference to your time.

Start warming up gently 20 minutes before the start, and run the first 1km slightly slower than your target pace.

The race starts at 16:50. Entries close on December 1, 2026.

Times are local to Madrid. Check the latest official information before the race.
