Starting at the Whitehorse Creek Overlook, the course passes buttes, canyons, badlands, and open plains of the northern Red Desert.
The finish is in the old mining town of South Pass City.

Start/finish at South Pass City historic site, 125 South Pass Main St, South Pass City, WY — a remote high-desert ghost town/state historic site with no public transportation of any kind. Very remote Wyoming high-desert venue, car access only; race organized by the Lander Running Club (Lander is roughly an hour's drive away).
Run the Red Desert takes place at South Pass City, a remote historic site in rural Wyoming with no public transit whatsoever. Visitors need a rental car; there is no transit card to worry about, only standard fuel/parking costs paid by card or cash.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
It is a point-to-point course from the start at Whitehorse Creek Overlook to the South Pass City Historic District,
passing through a remote area with almost no amenities.
The nearest gas stations are in Lander, 35 miles to the north, or Farson, 45 miles to the south, so runners should stock up on fuel and supplies in advance.
