RACE WEEK
Know the course and time limit, and race day comes into focus.
free
Savannah Ultra Urban 50K is a self-supported,
so-called "fatass"-style run that crosses downtown Savannah on a different route each year, without a fixed loop course.
Both the start and finish are in front of the Waving Girl statue downtown, with an 8:00 a.m. start.
Because course is redesigned every year, participants experience Savannah from a different perspective each time.
However, much of the route runs along busy downtown roads, so runners are instructed to use sidewalks and run facing oncoming traffic.
Although the route passes grocery stores and convenience stores,
there are no official water or aid stations, so runners should treat it as effectively unsupported.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
Packet pickup information has not yet been announced.
For small trail races, race-morning on-site pickup is common; check the registration page announcement for details.
Chatham Area Transit (CAT) downtown routes / free CAT "dot" shuttle — nearest stops on Bay St or River St, a short walk to the Waving Girl statue
Start is at the Waving Girl statue on River Street in the historic downtown riverfront district of Savannah,
a walkable, transit-served area (unlike most races in this batch, this one is urban).
Savannah's Amtrak station and Greyhound station are both several miles outside the historic downtown core (not walkable from the start) —
foreign runners arriving by train/bus should plan a taxi/rideshare into downtown.
Same — Waving Girl statue / River Street
Course is a loop that finishes at the same River Street starting point.
No race-organized shuttle found;
this is a self-supported "fatass"-style urban ultra with no formal aid/shuttle infrastructure per Rough Runners R4R description.
Savannah has its own bus system, Chatham Area Transit (CAT),
with a rechargeable CAT SmartCard giving a small discount over cash fare (cash fare is $1.50 per ride, day pass $3).
SmartCards can be loaded at the CAT customer service center;
contactless bank-card tap-to-pay is not yet standard, so visitors typically use cash, the SmartCard, or CAT's mobile app for this urban race.

Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
The defining feature of this race is that there are no Entry fee.
In exchange, the field is strictly limited to just 25 participants.
Registration for the 2026 race closed at midnight on November 20, and the 50K is already full,
so applications are currently accepted only through a free waitlist.
As a self-supported race, participants are expected to carry all the water, gels,
and other nutrition they need throughout course, rather than relying on roadside shops, according to the organizers.
Finishers receive handmade tile art inspired by one of Savannah’s iconic landmarks as a keepsake.
Times are local to Savannah. Check the latest official information before the race.
