THE DREAM
An event that combines nature, teamwork, and live music.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“I decided I wasn’t going to let off of the gas at this point until I crossed the finish.”Wes Claytor slowed in the mud and late fatigue on the 40-mile course at the 2020 Shakori 40, then rallied on the final lap. He finished in 7 hours 38 minutes 40 seconds, 5th overall out of 41, and fondly remembered his wife's aid and the music on course.
“I decided to push it that last lap, and simply endure the pain.”At the Shakori 40-mile race, the runner rolled an ankle twice but kept going, taking care with each foot placement. After learning they were leading before the final lap, they pushed through the pain to earn their first overall win in 6:03.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.
