Admiralteyskaya metro station (about 200m walk) or Nevsky Prospekt station, both near Palace Square, which is the fixed start/finish for all distances
St Petersburg Metro uses a rechargeable Podorozhnik card or single-ride tokens, sold at station kiosks and vending machines. Note that foreign-issued contactless bank cards (Visa/Mastercard) generally do not work in Russia due to sanctions in effect since 2022, so foreign visitors need cash to buy tokens or a locally issued card.
Single metro fare is roughly 75-90 rubles (approximate - confirm current pricing locally).
