At the Istanbul half marathon, Pernilla Bredolt ran the flat course in the rain, keeping the 1-hour, 40-minute pacer in sight and maintaining their pace. They accelerated from 19km, drew strength from a companion's cheers, and finished in 1 hour, 39 minutes, 51 seconds, breaking 1 hour, 40 minutes for the first time and setting a personal best.

The Türkiye İş Bankası Istanbul half marathon Marathon is run as a half marathon, starting at Yenikapı Square in the Fatih district, around the Langa bus stop.

The 21 km course follows the coast of the Historic Peninsula along Kennedy Avenue,

passing Sirkeci and Eminönü before turning around at Galata Bridge and returning to Yenikapı.

Yenikapı has been used as the fixed venue for recent editions, and the information above is based on the 21st edition held on April 19, 2026.

Getting to the start

Yenikapı (Marmaray + M1A/M1B/M2 metro interchange station)

Start point is the Yenikapı Meydanı/Event Area (Langa bus stop area), Fatih district. Reached via Marmaray suburban rail or M1A/M1B/M2 metro lines.

The 21K course is an out-and-back loop along the historic peninsula coast (Kennedy Ave → Sirkeci → Eminönü → Galata Bridge U-turn) finishing back at Yenikapı.

Start shuttle

No dedicated participant shuttle bus documented. Runners with a bib number and accredited officials can ride ALL İETT public buses free of charge race day until 15:00 (per 2026 edition).

Several İETT bus routes near Yenikapı/Eminönü/Unkapanı are diverted to ring routes during the race.

Yellow/blue vending machines at metro, tram, Metrobüs, and ferry stations, including at Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport Works directly at the gates

As of 2026 the physical İstanbulkart itself costs roughly 165 TL (card fee, no travel credit included), on top of which you load fare. A standard ride is roughly 42-46 TL with transfers dropping in price for ~2 hours; contactless bank card/Apple Pay/Google Pay coverage is inconsistent across vehicles and lines, so having a physical card is more reliable for a multi-day stay.

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

Know them ahead and the run feels easier.

The Istanbul half marathon Marathon starts in Yenikapı and follows the coastal road, Kennedy Avenue,

through Kumkapı, Cankurtaran, Sarayburnu and Sirkeci before crossing the Galata Bridge at Eminönü.

After crossing the bridge, runners turn immediately and retrace the coast road to Ayvansaray, then return to Yenikapı on this out-and-back course.

Rather than a course that crosses the Bosphorus Bridge between continents, the entire race stays on the European side, within the historic peninsula of Fatih.

The 10K course starts at the same point, runs to the front of Sepetçiler Kasrı in Sirkeci and turns around at the İDO ferry terminal.

The flat course follows the coast road throughout.

It is considered one of the course capable of producing some of the world's fastest times, and split times are published live on race day.
