“After running for 16 hours and 15 minutes, we arrived in Métabief at night.”
The writer took part in the UTMJ 100 km, passed the aid stations with a fellow runner, tackled the final climb, and arrived in Métabief in 16 hours and 15 minutes.

This runner enjoyed forests, villages, and cheese at aid stations on the 105 km Franco-Suisse course at the 2023 Ultra-Trail des Montagnes du Jura. Although unhappy about the dangerous rock section on the final Aiguillon climb, they finished in 18 hours 41 minutes, placing 2nd in M5.

Ultra-Trail des Montagnes du Jura is a mountain race in the Jura Mountains, linking France and Switzerland.
The courses start at different points throughout the range and are divided by distance before finishing in Métabief.
From the shortest Chamois to the long-distance solo races and the relay,
where teams divide the course between runners, each event explores the same mountains over a different distance.
The children’s race takes place as a loop course in Métabief.
The headline 175 km race starts in Lancrans.
It is a cross-border course along technically demanding narrow mountain trails,
passing through several French administrative areas before entering Switzerland, with an official elevation gain of 7,000 m.
The long journey to Métabief via Les Rousses, Mouthe, and Jougne reflects the event’s character: running through the Jura one section at a time.
A relay event on the same course is also available.
The Franco-Suisse is a 105 km course starting in Les Rousses and crossing the border while climbing mountain peaks.
The 75 km Renard also starts in Les Rousses, but it showcases the Jura’s terrain in a condensed form, moving between gorges, ridges, summits, and forests.
The Swiss section is included in the 300 km relay and the 175 km and 105 km races, while the other events remain on the French side.
The 300 km Jurassienne relay starts in Hauteville-Lompnes and crosses the range over a long route.
The character of each event is defined not simply by its distance, but by its starting area,
whether it crosses the border, and how it links the terrain together.

Multi-distance trail festival based at Métabief (Doubs), different start towns per distance/day: 175km 'UTMJ' starts Lancrans (Ain) Fri Oct 2 noon; 20km 'Lynx' starts Mouthe Sun Oct 4.
Métabief (Doubs)
All main distances finish in Métabief, Place Xavier Authier area.
Paid shuttle buses (~€5, book online) from Longevilles-Mont-d'Or to race starts for shorter distances; coach connections also from Frasne TGV and Vallorbe (CH). Note: exact start town/transit varies significantly by distance category.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
The shuttle for the 175 km start runs from the Miroir campsite behind the camping area in Les Hôpitaux-Neufs to Lancrans.
This is an optional service, so reserve it separately when you register.
After you finish, a shuttle circulates from Métabief back to the parking area at the shuttle boarding point, but no shuttle runs back to the Lamoura start.
Spectators must arrange their own transport because no shuttle connects the course intermediate points.
You can collect bib in Métabief or at the start venue for the relevant event.
You must show the original ID document, and an authorized person collecting on your behalf must also bring the participant’s original document.
Check the event information carefully to distinguish the collection location and opening hours at each start.
Participants must provide their own drop bags and attach the labels supplied by the organizers.
Long-distance solo events use separate bags for an intermediate checkpoint and the finish;
you can collect the bags used at the finish.
Before handing in your luggage, make sure each bag is marked for the correct destination.
A personal cup for use at aid stations is also mandatory equipment.
Times are local to Longevilles-Mont-d'Or. Check the latest official information before the race.
