THE DREAM
Drive through Virginia's horse ranches and wineries.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“I had the most fun I've ever had in a race and I think you should all put this event on your calendars for next year.”The runner took part in Virginia Marathon's Merikos course. They enjoyed the rural scenery, with its succession of hills and gravel roads, and were impressed by the wind-sheltered waiting area, the well-organized packet pickup, the well-spaced aid stations, the post-finish snacks, and results available right away.
“The hills delivered.”naturalspringwater05 completed their first marathon in 5:09:49 at the Virginia Marathon full marathon in Middleburg on November 13, 2022. They wrote that the course had about 2,000 feet of elevation gain, and that knee and foot pain in the later stages forced them to start walking around mile 23.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

The start and finish are around the amphitheatre at The Hill School in Middleburg.
Course runs on paved roads in Loudoun and Fauquier counties and includes some gravel roads, passing horse farms, wine country, and rolling rural scenery.
Middleburg is a village dating from 1787, and the town's shops and restaurants are close to the finish.
Organised by Old Dominion Racing, the event offers full marathon, the Merikos 19.65-mile race, half marathon, a 10K, and a 5K.
Full marathon is 26.2 miles with 2,087 feet of elevation gain, with the section over Bull Run Mountain as its main feature.
The Merikos also has 1,615 feet of elevation gain, and half marathon has 1,021 feet, so they differ from a flat-course course.
Full marathon requires runners to pass mile 22 within 6 hours, and the overall time limit cut-off is 7 hours.
