The course consists of ten 1km laps around city streets, covering a total of 10km.

The course includes a roughly 300m gravel climb, making it a demanding race for a road course, and the current course format was standardized in 1994.

Since its founding in 1990, world-class distance runners including Haile Gebrselassie, Paul Tergat,

and Kenenisa Bekele have competed here, making it one of Sicily's premier middle- and long-distance road races.
