As of June 1, 2026, Bangkok's MRT (Blue and Purple Lines, extending to Yellow/Pink) fully switched to EMV open-loop contactless payment: any foreign Visa, Mastercard, or UnionPay contactless bank card taps directly at the turnstile. The separate BTS Skytrain network still requires a Rabbit Card (contactless bank cards do NOT work on BTS turnstiles). River boats are primarily cash-paid, though the Rabbit Card is now accepted on some Express Boat lines.
