Transit card
Link your foreign Visa/Mastercard to Alipay (or WeChat Pay) and use its in-app transit QR code to ride the metro — this is currently the most reliable way for foreign visitors, since Changsha hasn't been confirmed to support tap-and-ride with a foreign contactless bank card the way Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu now do.
Transit cardXiaoxiang Card (潇湘卡, national Transportation Union card)
Where to buyCustomer service centers at metro stations (deposit + stored value required, cash top-up)
Contactless cardNot accepted at the gates — get the local card above
Transit cardSingle-ride tickets cost roughly CNY 2-6 depending on distance and can be bought in cash or via QR code at station vending machines (English interface available). No verified source confirms direct foreign-bank-card tap-to-ride for Changsha yet — Alipay's transit QR feature linked to a foreign card is the most dependable fallback.
