“Once we made the U-turn, he picked up speed and I continued to keep to my pace alone.”

At the 2019 Bangkok Midnight Marathon, the runner started at 1 a.m. and covered the highway section alongside a Thai participant. Iliotibial band pain slowed the pace, but a 75th-place men's finish earned a monkey plush toy awarded to the top 100.

This is a nighttime road race in Bangkok featuring half marathon and 10km events.

The start is on Sanam Chai Road, in front of the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew on Rattanakosin Island,

and the finish is near Sao Ching Cha (the Giant Swing) on the same island.

Course passes old-town landmarks such as the Democracy Monument, Golden Mount, and Loha Prasat.

Because of the midnight start, runners gather on the night of Saturday, December 19 and run in the early hours of Sunday, December 20;

in the most recent 2025 edition, half marathon started at 3:00 a.m. and the 10K at 4:00 a.m.

Typical race-season temperature: around 25°C (77°F): Hot race — plan fluids and electrolytes

The start and finish are on Sanam Chai Road in front of the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew.
Because the race starts at midnight, runners gather on the night of 12/19 (Sat.) and run in the early hours of 12/20 (Sun.).
Information about Packet Pickup will be announced later and is not yet available.

Getting to the start

Sanam Chai Road, in front of the Grand Palace, Rattanakosin Island, Bangkok — Sanam Chai MRT Station (Blue Line, BL31) is literally at this location

The race's official public presence is via Facebook (facebook.com/BKKmidnightmarathon), organized by RUNRIO Thailand, branded 'Awaken Bangkok Midnight Marathon'. Sanam Chai MRT is described as the only MRT station serving inner Rattanakosin Island.

The 2025 edition (per prior edition) ran with half marathon starting 3:00am and 10K at 4:00am — midnight/very early timing.

Finish area (Sao Ching Cha) and course landmarks (Democracy Monument, Golden Mount, Loha Prasat) are all within walking distance of Sanam Chai MRT.

BTS Skytrain station counters, or pre-book online (e.g. via Klook/Trip.com) with pickup at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Works directly at the gates Alternative: BTS One-Day Pass 150 THB — Worth it if you'll take 4 or more BTS Skytrain trips in a single day; otherwise the Rabbit Card's pay-as-you-go is more flexible for multi-day trips.

Important: the Rabbit Card only works on the BTS Skytrain (Green/Gold lines) — it does NOT work on the MRT (Blue/Purple lines), a separate operator. Conversely, you cannot tap a foreign contactless bank card at BTS gates, but you CAN tap it directly at MRT gates.

Rabbit Card costs 200 THB total (100 THB non-refundable card fee + 100 THB stored value).

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

Know them ahead and the run feels easier.

The starting point is right next to MRT Blue Line Sanam Chai Station (BL31),

and the finals and course attractions are also within walking distance from this station.

However, the Bangkok MRT does not operate 24 hours a day, so the first train may not arrive at 3 or 4 a.m.,

so you should check the operating hours in advance on the day of the competition and prepare to call a taxi or car.

There is no confirmed shuttle bus for the competition.

The host is RUNRIO Thailand, and the Packet Pickup information has not been released yet.
