Nicosia is the world's only divided capital, split between the Republic of Cyprus and Northern Cyprus.

Each January, the Bank of Cyprus Nicosia Marathon runs through the city.

Founded in 2010 by the Athanasios Ktorides Foundation, it is AIMS-accredited and recognised by World Athletics.

The programme includes full marathon, half marathon and 10km races, among others, and attracts 4,000 to 8,000 runners from around 50 countries each year.

The start and finish are at Eleftheria Square in the city centre.

It starts at Solomou Square, passes Famagusta Gate and the Liberty Monument, and finishes at Eleftheria Square.

The race is a loop course that starts and finishes at Eleftheria Square.

Runners pass the Venetian Walls, Famagusta Gate and the Liberty Monument, then follow the Green Line, the UN buffer zone dividing the north and south.

The route continues through the University of Cyprus campus to Athalassa National Forest Park.

Course takes in the old town, modern city districts and suburban greenery.

Elevation gain is about 120m based on full marathon, making it relatively flat for an urban marathon.

The 2027 race registration center (race pack collection point) will open at 9:00 AM on Friday and Saturday, two days before the race, but the exact location and closing time have not yet been announced.
The required documents, proxy collection, and whether same-day collection is possible have also not been officially confirmed; please check with the organizer.

Getting to the startSolomou Square (Πλατεία Σολωμού), central Nicosia — a short walk from Eleftheria Square.
Transit cardBuy a rechargeable Motion Card (Cyprus's nationwide bus card) at a kiosk, supermarket, or bus terminal and tap it on board — it's noticeably cheaper than paying cash to the driver. Getting to the start

Solomou Square (Πλατεία Σολωμού), central Nicosia — a short walk from Eleftheria Square. Cyprus has no passenger rail; Nicosia served by local OSEL/Cyprus public buses reaching the city-center square area (no named metro/train station exists)

Consistently reported as the race's finish point in the historic city center, near the Venetian Walls and Famagusta Gate.

Official site indicates a list of available parking spots is published via the event's social media/newsletter in the days before the race rather than a fixed shuttle program. No metro/rail exists in Cyprus; local city buses serve the Eleftheria/Solomou Square area but no marathon-specific bus routing documented.

Alternative: Motion Card multi-day pass (2-day/3-day/7-day) €17.40 (2-day) / €26.10 (3-day) / €46.80 (7-day) — Worth it if you'll ride Nicosia buses multiple times a day for several days, e.g. shuttling to/from a race expo or start line.

Single cash fare on board is about €2.40 vs €1.80 with the Motion Card. Cyprus buses run infrequently outside main routes, so budget extra time.

Nicosia's system is run by OSEL under the national Cyprus Public Transport umbrella.

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.

Plan to collect your race pack before race day at the registration center at the CYENS Centre of Excellence.

If you can't go in person, you can forward your confirmation email to someone else to collect it for you.

If you chose the ACS delivery option, you pick up the pack at the pickup point you selected,

and you can add this service on the registration platform even after signing up.

Separately purchased merchandise is also collected at the registration center.

Depending on how you collect, you may need to visit a place other than the race venue first, so get your pack sorted and then plan your race-morning route.

Bag storage is set up near start line.

The organizers ask runners to arrive early to allow time to drop bags and use the toilets.

Course has water and toilets about every 2.5–3km, with water, sports drink and fruit.

Medical points and ambulances are positioned at course and the finish.

After crossing the finish at Eleftheria Square, you're directed to the finisher medal collection area,

and the info desk near the finish handles questions on the day.

Write your emergency contact, allergies and other information responders may need on the back of bib in advance.
