“Sunday September 29th 2024 I ran the Chisinau Marathon in Moldova.”

Tor Rønnow ran four laps of a course featuring a highway climb at the 2024 Chișinău Marathon, and rising morning temperatures increased the effort. Sharing the road with runners of different distances and roller skaters raised safety concerns, but his overall assessment was positive.

Entry cost MDL 900

Online advance registration, with six pricing tiers based on the registration date (time limit 6 hours)

Price schedule (T-shirt included): 11/4–1/28: 800;

1/29–3/12: 850;

3/13–5/12: 900;

5/13–7/1: 950;

7/2–9/2: 1000;

9/3–9/13 (on-site registration): 1100 MDL.

Without a T-shirt, each tier is 150 MDL cheaper (650–950 MDL).

The Chișinău International Marathon is an AIMS-certified race in Moldova’s capital, Chișinău, and has retained its certification since 2016.

The start and finish are at Great National Assembly Square (PMAN), in front of the Triumphal Arch.

The course centres on the city’s main boulevard,

Ștefan cel Mare Blvd. Full marathon and half marathon follow the same out-and-back route along the boulevard towards Ciuflea Street and Dacia Boulevard.

The 10km uses the same main section, while the 5km runs out and back towards Ismail Street.

The course is promoted as a flat urban course without traffic lights and as suitable for personal best challenges.

A separate Marathon for All division for wheelchair users is offered over 5, 10.5 and 21km.

Chisinau launched contactless bank-card payment via Moldova Agroindbank on select trolleybus routes (22, 23, 24, 30) and bus routes (2, 5, 37),

with mobile terminals carried by conductors or fixed validators on some vehicles.

Fare was 2 lei on trolleybuses and 3 lei on buses at launch.

Coverage may not extend to every route.

The Chisinau International Marathon starts all four distances together at 09:00 on race day, with wheelchair athletes setting off five minutes earlier at 08:55.

Cutoff times are set by distance: 45 minutes for the 5km, 90 minutes for the 10km, three hours for the half marathon, and six hours for the full marathon.

Runners collect their race kits at the Sport Expo, open from September 10 to 12.

Those arriving from out of town can also pick up bibs on race morning between 06:00 and 08:00.

Fruit and water are available on the course, and finishers can end their race with a massage at the finish line.
