The road to your own record

The city you want to run becomes your next trip.
THE DREAM
This single-distance marathon circles Presque Isle State Park on Pennsylvania’s Lake Erie.
It is a loop course that finishes where it started.
The flat park roads beside the lake make it a popular choice for runners targeting a Boston-qualifying time.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“The views of Lake Erie are stunningly beautiful.”Dan recorded how he had to run to the start just before it began because of a parking delay at the Erie Marathon, as well as his experience of following the 4-hour pace group and taking in the views of Lake Erie.
“I got to maybe 100 feet away and sped up to decent running speed and crossed the finish line.”The author managed a fast opening pace and signs of calf cramps late in the Iri Marathon, finishing in 3 hours 7 minutes 10 seconds.
“I crossed the finish line just as it ticked to 3:10.”Brian Rock completed the 2023 Erie Marathon in an official time of 3:09:47. The heat and high humidity made the second half difficult, but he said he was impressed by the aid stations at every mile, the local team's support, and the course overlooking the lake and bay. He held his target pace through mile 20, then held on during the final 10K to achieve a Boston-qualifying time.

Erie Marathon takes place entirely within Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pennsylvania, USA.
The park is a 3,200-acre sandy peninsula that curves into Lake Erie and was named the best freshwater beach in the United States by USA Today in 2016.
The start and finish are at the Erie Runners Club Pavilion beside Beach One, approximately half a mile inside the park entrance.
Course follows the old lakeshore road and the park's main road for two laps of the peninsula.
After the start, the route heads away from the park entrance.
Because vehicle traffic remains open in the park, runners generally stay in the left lane and run facing oncoming traffic.
In 2017, the course direction was reversed,
moving the well-known hairpin turn near the entrance from the first mile to approximately halfway through the race and removing the congestion immediately after the start.
The course is flat, with less than 250 feet of total elevation change.
The surface is mostly asphalt, with approximately one-third concrete.
The route alternates between shade and sun, with views of beaches, wetlands and wooded paths.
It is a USATF-certified course and can be used as a Boston Marathon qualifying time.
The field is limited to 2,000 participants.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
The organiser strongly recommends Saturday pickup.
The same pavilion serves as the start, finish, vendor and awards area; there is no large expo, only one or two vendors.
EMTA (Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority) Route 33 'Presque Isle Express' offers free seasonal service into the park, but only runs Wed/Sat from late May through mid-August; that service ends before the September race date, so no scheduled public transit reaches the venue on race day
Start/finish is at the Erie Runners Club Beach 1 Pavilion inside Presque Isle State Park.
In-park parking is restricted on race day — participants must park at Waldameer Park or the Tom Ridge Environmental Center and walk roughly 0.6 miles in.
Date confirmed as Sept 13, 2026 via the official eriemarathon.net and runsignup.
Same as start — Erie Runners Club Beach 1 Pavilion, Presque Isle State Park
Two-loop course finishes at the same Beach 1 Pavilion as the start.
No official race shuttle found;
access is car + walk-in due to no in-park parking on race day
No dedicated IC transit card;
Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority (EMTA) buses accept cash fares and passes purchased on board or at their office, but there is no citywide tap-card system.
A car or rideshare is the practical way to reach the marathon venue.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
The 2026 race started at 7:00 and operated until 13:00.
Bib could be collected at the pavilion from 12:00 to 17:00 on Saturday, the day before the race, or from 5:45 to 6:45 on race morning.
The start will not be delayed even if the race-day queue is long, so Saturday collection is safer.
Photo identification is required, and collection by someone else is not permitted.
Roadside parking inside the park is prohibited on race day, and no shuttle buses operate.
Park at the free lots at Waldameer Park or Tom Ridge Center on the hill above the park entrance, then walk approximately half a mile to start line.
If you have already collected bib, plan to arrive at Waldameer by 6:15.
Bags are checked at the storage area near the pavilion by tying on the tear-off tag attached to bib.
Aid station are located approximately every 1 to 2 miles and provide Gatorade and water.
Time limit is approximately 6 hours, or a pace of 13.75 minutes per mile.
At the 14-mile point, the road reopens approximately 3 hours 14 minutes after the start.
If you are later than that, you must move to the multi-use trail beside the road to complete the race.
Times are local to Erie. Check the latest official information before the race.
