Race reports: 2
David ComptonRan in 2019 · Finish time 05:59:00
“My feet were aching a bit but not unbearable to we kept pushing.”

At the 2019 Firewater Ultra 50 km, David contended with a high heart rate and two rolled ankles. Running the last five miles with a pacer, he finished seventh in 5:59.

David ComptonRan in 2018
“I was going to finish.”

David tackled his first 100 km at the 2018 Firewater Ultra, managing rain, mud, and knee pain by breaking the race into goals from one aid station to the next. He revived his fading headlamp at the final aid station and reached the finish.

We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

Now in its 12th year, this race was also the first to use the entire East Lakeshore Trail on the eastern side of Tellico Reservoir from end to end.

The trail is maintained by the watershed protection group WATeR and is generally kept in good condition.

The 50K division lets runners choose a start time of either 8:30 AM ('Sunrise') or 2:30 PM ('Sunset'),

so those who start later finish while watching the sunset over Tellico Lake.
