From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“I really wanted to talk, but I think it's better to conserve as much energy as possible in a marathon.”
Adaliux matched pace with other runners at the 2018 Mérida Marathon before heavy legs and rising heat made things difficult after 30 km. Finishing in 4:13, the runner appreciated the final cheers, post-race massage, and cold-water recovery facilities.

Realmente quería platicar, pero en maratón creo que es mejor ahorrar todo lo posible en energía.

Addy Zepeda finished the Mérida Marathon despite thigh pain and fatigue late in the race, supported by her husband and local runners. Hearing people call her name moved her deeply, and she was delighted by an unexpected win in the women's masters category.

Ha sido el cierre de maratón más emotivo que he tenido.

Merida launched Mexico's first open-loop (EMV) contactless payment system on Va y Ven buses in April/May 2025.
Standard fare is about 12 MXN per ride.
The physical Va y Ven card (25 MXN) gets transfer discounts (2nd ride 6 MXN, 3rd/4th free within 2 hours) that a bare contactless bank card tap may not receive.
Merida has no subway;
local public transit is the Va y Ven bus system, which requires a rechargeable IC card (about 30 pesos) available at OXXO,
Super Aki, Super Willys, Dunosusa convenience stores, or smart ATMs in the Historic Center.
Foreign bank cards do not tap directly on buses.
Given the very early start times (5:00-5:45am), most out-of-town runners use taxi or rideshare (Uber/Didi) rather than public transit on race morning.

The Mérida Marathon uses staggered early-morning starts by distance.
Full marathon starts first at 5:00 a.m., followed by half marathon at 5:20, the 10km at 6:00 and the walking event at 6:05.
All events start and finish in front of the Monumento a la Patria, the landmark at Paseo de Montejo.
Course follows Paseo de Montejo and passes near Parque de las Américas and the Centenario Zoo.
It is a leading Yucatán marathon that starts before dawn to beat the heat, using the city’s main boulevards as course and passing several major sights.
Times are local to Merida. Check the latest official information before the race.
