From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“I finished my first marathon in 03:27:20, feeling incredibly proud of myself.”The writer completed a first marathon at the 2025 Porto Alegre International Marathon in 3 hours 27 minutes 20 seconds. Despite having only 3 months to prepare, the writer managed the pace and fueling, then thought of the writer's family after 30 km while running through the emotionally difficult section and continued to the finish.
“I finished a marathon in under 4 hours for the first time.”
Sergio Melo managed his planned pace despite foot pain and cold at the 2016 Porto Alegre Marathon, then pushed over the final 3 km to achieve his first sub-four-hour finish in 3:59:32.

RACE WEEK
Know the course and time limit, and race day comes into focus.
Porto Alegre International Marathon presents itself as Brazil's oldest marathon and will hold its 42nd edition in 2027.
It is organized by the Porto Alegre Runners Club (CORPA), founded in 1981.
Course links Orla along Guaíba, the Centro Histórico and parks in the city, and the event takes pride in offering Brazil's flattest and fastest 42.195km.
Half marathon also crosses historic landmarks and offers views of Guaíba.
The completely flat and fast course, cool climate, plentiful water and roadside support attract many runners targeting a personal best.
The event is also distinctive because it is held over 2 days.
Half marathon starts on the morning of Saturday, 6 June, and full marathon starts early on Sunday, 6 June.
There is also the Desafio Gaúcho for those running on both days.
The total capacity is 30,000, including 12,000 full marathon.
High-level athletes also take part: entry to the elite group requires a full marathon of 2:22 or faster for men and 2:55 or faster for women.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
Pay cash directly to the driver — it's accepted on every bus and needs no card or ID. If your specific bus shows a contactless payment symbol, you can also tap a foreign Visa/Mastercard at the validator, but this isn't yet on every bus.
Arena on Av.

42nd edition confirmed 5-6 June 2027, full marathon (42.
Saturday June 5 (6:30am) covers half marathon/10km/5km/kids race.
Same arena, BarraShoppingSul, Av. Diario de Noticias.
No dedicated participant shuttle,
but city transit authority EPTC implements a special traffic/transit scheme each edition: dozens of bus/shared-van lines diverted,
temporary bus terminals set up, circular lines suspended for race day (per 2025-edition EPTC coverage, 2027-specific bulletin not yet published).
Venue consistent across 2025-2026 editions, very likely unchanged for 2027.
Cartão TRI
TRI service points (e.g. Loja Unificada TRI e TEU) or the TRI mobile app —
requires CPF (Brazilian tax ID), RG, and proof of residence, a real barrier for foreign tourists
Works directly at the gates
Bus fare is R$5.30 (Feb 2026).
Cash is the simplest fallback since getting a Cartão TRI needs Brazilian ID documents.
A bank-card tap-to-pay pilot is rolling out on Carris buses (started on the T1 line), not confirmed fleet-wide as of 2026.
A digital QR-code option exists in the TRI app, but topping it up is built around PIX (Brazilian instant bank transfer), which most foreign visitors can't use.
