The Shinjuku City half marathon Marathon is an urban half marathon marathon organized by Tokyo's Shinjuku City, also serving as a community health marathon.

The start and finish are at the National Stadium, used as the main stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Course leaves the stadium, passes through Meiji Jingu Gaien, follows Yasukuni-dori,

continues to Kagurazaka, the cultural district near Iidabashi, and returns to the stadium as an out-and-back urban course.

The event is a course certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) and World Athletics,

making it a trusted race for runners who need an officially recognized time.

In addition to the half marathon Marathon, it offers several distances, including a 10 km, 3 km,

and children's divisions (2 km) that start in sequence by grade, giving the event a strong community-participation character.

From the 2024 event onward, the half marathon Marathon field limit increased to 6,000 runners.

The event also features a separate priority-entry period for Shinjuku residents.

As one of the few community marathons to use the National Stadium as both its start and finish in the heart of Tokyo,

it has become the event that opens Tokyo's winter running season each year in late January.

READY TO RUN

Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.

Entries are accepted through the official website and Sports Entry,

in a two-stage process: priority entry for Shinjuku residents followed by general entry.

Based on the previous year, Entry fee was about ¥11,000 for the half marathon Marathon, ¥6,000 for the 10 km, and ¥2,500 for the 3 km.

The time limit for the half marathon Marathon is 2 hours 30 minutes, and course has intermediate time limits (cut-off point) at several points,

so runners whose pace drops significantly may not be credited as finishers.

The shorter 3 km and 2 km divisions start in sequence at set times by division and school grade,

so runners cannot line up at start line outside their designated time.

Times are local to Tokyo. Check the latest official information before the race.
