From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“This was my first ultra race post partum.”Running her first 50K postpartum, Cassie Nevins said she managed her fueling well. The sandy footing felt unfamiliar, and she struggled during the final two laps when the unmanned water station ran dry.
“The even better news was that after six and a half hours of running, we finished.”At Southern Tour Ultra 50km, the runner stayed beside a friend struggling with pain. Helping the friend focus on breathing and bodily sensations, the runner crossed the finish alongside them.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

Southern Tour Ultra is a trail event held in Wilmington, North Carolina, USA, featuring individual ultras and team relays.
Tom Clifford, founder of With Out Limits, partnered with the Wilmington Health Foundation to start the event as a festival for the local running community.
The official introduction states that the goal is to create a site where families can stay together while providing competition for teams and individuals.
Individual events are divided into 100 miles, 50 miles, and 50 km.
The method is to complete the target distance by running the same trail loop section several times,
and course guidance provides separate maps for individual events and maps for relays.
Unlike ultras, which move in one direction for a long course, the race continues with the main venue at the center.
The structure of participants returning to the venue after each lap brings together individual and team races in the same space.
In addition to trail running, classic rock and banjo music, bonfires, and barbecues are featured in the event.
Organizers say they aim for a music festival-like atmosphere, emphasizing a weekend where colleagues and family stay together before and after the race.
The cooperative foundation supports the health activities of local organizations and connects residents and businesses.
The nature of the Southern Tour Ultra is evident in the fact that long-distance competition takes place within a local community festival.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
Packet pickup information has not yet been announced.
For small trail races, race-morning on-site pickup is common; check the registration page announcement for details.
Rural trail venue near Scott's Hill Loop Road, Wilmington NC — no public transit access;
official site gives no train/bus station.
Rural North Carolina venue with no rail/transit access — shuttle is a car-parking overflow shuttle, not transit-connected.
Same venue as start (loop course).
Free shuttle service runs from Poplar Grove Plantation to the venue entrance (5:30am-3:00pm) for participants/spectators once the 450-car on-site parking passes sell out;
parking-pass holders enter via the Scott's Hill Loop Gate.
Wilmington, NC is served by the local Wave Transit bus system,
which uses cash or a stored-value Wave Card at limited outlets rather than a major regional IC card.
Race venues here are generally easiest to reach by car or rideshare.
No contactless bank-card tap-to-pay is available on Wave Transit.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
If you want to enter the event venue by car, you must prepare the assigned QR parking ticket.
Parking passes are assigned to individual event participants and relay teams, and team parking passes are sent to the captain.
Since you receive a vehicle tag after checking the QR at the entrance, you just need to prepare a screen or printout before entering.
Vehicles with a parking pass must enter through the Scotts Hill Loop gate.
Participants and their companions using off-site parking will be transported by free shuttle from Poplar Grove Plantation.
On-site parking areas must follow the management's layout due to different ground conditions and distances to the event venue,
and parking is not permitted on Highway 17.
Camping passes and parking passes are separate, so applying for one does not include use of the other.
Instead of driving into the camping area and dropping off your supplies, you have to park and move your gear.
Portable toilets and hand washing facilities are provided, and trash cans are available at the exit.
If you are planning to camp and participate in a race together,
distinguishing between the two tickets is the starting point for organizing your route to the site.
Times are local to Wilmington. Check the latest official information before the race.
