The city you want to run becomes your next trip.
SausalitoTHE DREAM
It began in 1995 as the Point Reyes 50k and became today's course in 1998.
It connects the Coastal, Miwok, Matt Davis, and Dipsea trails that represent Marin County.
It starts and finishes at Santos Meadow near Muir Woods, where the post-race event is also held.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“I was happy with my finish, even though I did not meet my goal of sub-6 hours.”At Tamalpa Headlands 50 km, the runner adjusted their pace to how they felt, continuing to alternate walking and running into the later stages. A fall on the final descent didn't stop a return to running and a finish in 6 hours 23 minutes 7 seconds.
“I acquired some sizable scrapes, but it was only a short diversion from the task at hand.”At Tamalpa Headlands 50 km, the runner recovered their pace after falling on a slippery bridge. Steep climbs and technical descents led to 1st overall in 3 hours 53 minutes 3 seconds.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

So on race morning, you can just run.
No scheduled public transit currently reaches the venue - SFMTA's 76X Marin Headlands Express (the only direct line to Fort Cronkhite/Rodeo Beach) is suspended indefinitely
When it operated, 76X ran weekends only from Montgomery St BART/Muni station in SF to the Fort Cronkhite parking lot next to Rodeo Beach. With it suspended, runners need a car; race organizers strongly recommend carpooling.
Remote National Park Service area (Marin Headlands); effectively car-only access as of 2026 with the transit line to the trailhead suspended.
Same as start - Rodeo Beach/Santos Meadow parking area, Marin Headlands
Check-in is 6:00-6:45am race morning at the Rodeo Beach start/finish area.
No organizer race-day shuttle documented; official site emphasizes carpooling instead.
Sausalito is reachable from San Francisco via Golden Gate Ferry, where tapping a Clipper card (or a contactless bank card directly) gives a discounted fare of about $7.50 versus $14 cash one-way. Clipper cards can be bought/reloaded at ferry terminal ticket machines, Walgreens, or via the Clipper app, making this one of the few races in this batch with a real regional transit option.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
The Marin Headlands venue currently has no direct public transportation, as route 76X is suspended indefinitely, so you will need to drive.
It is about a 30-minute drive from San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge, and carpooling is recommended because parking is limited.
Coastal fog can make the morning feel cold before temperatures rise sharply during the day, so dressing in layers is essential.
Registration is available through the official website.
Times are local to Sausalito. Check the latest official information before the race.
