“I struggled in miles 24 and 25, and walked a few steps a few times.”

At the WhistleStop Marathon, they adjusted their effort to the old railway course, which had more rocks, sand, and puddles than expected. After struggling through miles 24–25 in the cold, they picked up the pace again and finished with a personal best of 3 hours 29 minutes 29 seconds.

Getting to the start

No public transit - full marathon start is near South Shore Sand & Gravel, 68280 Primrose Lane, Iron River, WI, on US Hwy 2 (about 1.5 miles from the actual start line).

Runners/spectators are bused from the finish area (Bay Area Civic Center, Ashland) to the South Shore Sand & Gravel start staging area; the half marathon starts at Moquah Town Park (23700 Pilsen Hall Rd, Ashland), also reached via shuttle. No bus runs back to the start areas after the race.

Point-to-point rural Wisconsin course between Iron River and Ashland with no public transit; the organizer's one-way shuttle from the finish area is required to reach any start line.

No train/subway - finish is at the Bay Area Civic Center, 320 4th Ave West, Ashland, WI, on the south side of the building in front of Associated Bank.

5K/10K shuttle buses depart from the finish area starting at 7:30am, with the last bus leaving at 8:00am.

Organizer shuttle buses run one-way from the Bay Area Civic Center (finish) to each distance's start line (full marathon, half marathon, 5K/10K); there is no return shuttle to the start areas.
