THE DREAM
This race is held every June in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands.
Against the backdrop of Tórshavn, Europe's least populous capital, with a population of approximately 12,700, the event offers full marathon,
half marathon, 10km and 5.5km races, plus a half marathon walking event starting in the village of Kaldbak.
It is also known as the Atlantic Airways Tórshavn Marathon after its airline sponsor,
and runners follow a paved course certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
Hundreds of international participants from more than 30 countries attend each year,
making it a representative marathon for this island nation in the North Atlantic.

Both the start and finish are at Vágsbotni, near Tórshavn Harbour.
Course begins with an approximately 8 km loop around the city,
then climbs steeply along the coastal road before descending alongside Kaldbaksfjørður and passing through the village of Kaldbak,
known for its waterfall and turf-roofed church.
The course then climbs again towards the city before reaching finish near the harbour.
The entire course is on paved roads, with approximately 600 m of total elevation gain, and the time limit is 6 hours.
The half marathon walking event starts in Kaldbak and joins the runners' course in the second half.
During the event, the entire course route is closed to traffic, allowing runners to race without vehicles.

This may change for the next edition.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
Within Tórshavn itself, just board the city bus (Bussleiðin) — it's completely free, no payment of any kind needed; for trips beyond the city (regional buses/ferries), pay onboard with cash or a bank card.
Vágsbotn, Tórshavn harbour — main start/finish for Marathon and 10K
Main start (marathon, 10K, half-marathon runners) is at Vágsbotn in central Tórshavn, walkable from anywhere in the compact city center.
Note: half-marathon WALKERS (not runners) start separately from the village of Kaldbak,
reached via free shuttle buses departing the Farstøðin terminal from 12:30pm race day.
Vágsbotn, Tórshavn (same location as main start)
Finish provides water/refreshments, a free post-race meal at Reinsaríun (sponsored by Bakkafrost), and complimentary drinks/desserts;
clothing/bag storage in the post office basement.
Extensive road closures across central Tórshavn 12:30-19:30 race day.
Free shuttle buses run from the Farstøðin terminal to Kaldbak (12:30pm start window) for half-marathon walkers only;
not needed for the marathon/10K/half-marathon-run start, which is in the city center.
Getting to the Faroe Islands: fly into Vágar Airport (via Copenhagen, or seasonal direct links), then ~45min road transfer to Tórshavn.
Tórshavn's local city bus network (Bussleiðin, the red buses) has been free for both residents and visitors since 2019 —
a runner staying in town for a race needs no payment method at all for local transit.
The separate national operator (SSL) runs inter-town/inter-island buses and ferries and does charge a fare,
payable onboard by cash or card, though tap-to-pay/EMV contactless wasn't confirmed.

Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
Early June is often relatively clear in Tórshavn, but the North Atlantic maritime climate means daytime highs stay around 11°C,
with frequent strong winds and sudden changes in weather.
Average humidity is 88%, so conditions can feel colder than the thermometer suggests.
A windproof, waterproof outer layer is the safest choice.
Course includes repeated climbs on coastal roads and descents beside fjords, making it more demanding than a flat course;
runners often report that the late descents load the legs almost as much as the climbs.
With few spectators, long stretches may be accompanied only by sheep and the wind, so you will need to manage your own pace.
Times are local to Tórshavn. Check the latest official information before the race.
