THE DREAM
Both start line and finish are on Capitol Street.
Between them are two bridges over the Kanawha River and the gold dome of the West Virginia State Capitol.
This is a USATF-certified marathon course, and finish times count as Boston Marathon qualifying times.
The marathon and half marathon start at the same time on Sunday, while the 5K is held the previous day, on Saturday, at University Campus Riverbank.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“My only struggle in the entire race was the heat.”The writer finished their first University of Charleston Marathon in 3:16:31, placing 29th overall and first in their age group. They remember course along the river and through downtown, plus the strong support on campus—with little shade, the sun and heat were the toughest part.
“Awesome trip, food, drink, history and more!”Mickey Moore finished the 2026 UC Marathon in 3:03:33, and came away with a trip that included great food, drinks, and history along with the race.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

The marathon starts in front of the UC Downtown Innovation Hub on Capitol Street.
Runners head west through the West Side, one of Charleston’s oldest neighborhoods.
They then cross the Patrick Street Bridge, passing views of the Kanawha River before heading into the southern part of the city.
After crossing the bridge, course follows the riverfront past the University of Charleston campus.
The state capitol is visible along this section.
The route then continues along tree-lined city streets and quiet residential roads before crossing the South Side Bridge and returning downtown.
The remaining section loops around the state capitol complex with its golden dome, passes through the East End, and heads toward Capitol Street.
After finish, the post-race celebration continues at Slack Plaza with music and food.
The marathon, half marathon, and the 5K course are all relatively flat.
The marathon course has USATF certification number WV25002MS, and the time limit is 7 hours.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.

Venue: 240 Capitol Street, Charleston, WV 25301 (UC Downtown Innovation Hub). Race starts Sunday 7AM on Capitol Street.
Date confirmed: race is held on a Sunday and 2027-04-11 is a Sunday, matching official pattern (some listing sites show a Saturday date, likely for expo/related Saturday activities, not the marathon itself) — no real conflict.

Same as start.
No organizer shuttle identified (not needed — start/finish is in walkable downtown Charleston).
Charleston, WV is served by Kanawha Valley Regional Transit (KRT) buses paid with cash or an exact-fare ticket rather than a rechargeable smart card, with no tap-to-pay bank card option. Most marathon visitors will find a car or rideshare more convenient than city buses for reaching University of Charleston race venues.
