Runners start · local time — Sunday 23 August 2026 — 5k Race from 09:00am (The 5K race will begin at 9:00am)
The Antrim Coast 5k runs in Larne, on the eastern coast of County Antrim, as part of the same August weekend as the Antrim Coast Half Marathon.
The 5k starts at 9:00 a.m., two hours ahead of the half marathon's 11:00 a.m. start.
The wider event is built around the Antrim Coast Road — the A2, engineered by William Bald and completed in 1842 —
which runs along the coastline and through the scenic Glens of Antrim.
At the Larne end, the road passes beneath the Black Arch, a tunnel marking the town's northern edge and the start of the coast road itself.
Larne sits roughly 30 km from Belfast and about 25 miles from the Scottish coast,
close enough that the North Channel views on a clear day reach toward the Mull of Kintyre.

Larne Town Centre/Harbour area (differs from the half marathon's start at Larne Town Park/Glenarm Road)
New for 2026, the 5k (a World Athletics Label Race) starts at 09:00am, two hours before the half marathon (11:00am), on a flat town-centre/harbour-area route in Larne. No exact start street/landmark found beyond 'Larne Town Centre'.
Larne Town Centre/Harbour area
Unconfirmed whether the finish is the same Chaine Memorial Tower point used by the half marathon, or a separate nearby point.
Larne is served by Translink (Northern Ireland's public operator), not a separate local card scheme. Translink rolled out contactless payment across all Ulsterbus/Goldliner bus and NI Railways train services, so a foreign contactless card or phone wallet works directly at the reader.
Cash and the mLink app are also accepted.

The half marathon that follows two hours later is one of only two races in the UK and Ireland carrying a World Athletics Elite Label,
a status that has drawn strong Ethiopian and Kenyan fields —
Ethiopian runners swept both the men's and women's races in 2021 and 2022.
Yalemzerf Yehualaw set the current women's course record of 1:04:22 in 2022, itself the UK & Ireland all-comers half marathon record;
a year earlier she had run 1:03:44 on the same course, a mark that would have stood as a world record had the course not been found to measure 54 metres short.
Daniel Mateiko of Kenya holds the men's course record and the UK & Ireland all-comers mark at 58:36, set in 2023.
The Black Arch tunnel, cut into the coast road at the northern edge of Larne in 1842, sits right at the start shared by the day's races.
Further up the coast, the half marathon route passes Ballygally Castle — built in 1625 and now run as a hotel —
along with the site of the Battle of Larne Lough, the last recorded Viking battle fought in Ireland,
in 1018, and Olderfleet Castle, where Edward Bruce landed his invasion force in May 1315.
The Ballygally stretch has also served as a filming location for Game of Thrones.
Entries for the 2026 races closed ahead of race day.
Times are local to Larne. Check the latest official information before the race.
