The Barmstedter Stadtlauf is a community festival-style road race held in downtown Barmstedt in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

First held in 2005, it has continued ever since;

it is hosted by the Barmstedt MTV (sports club), but numerous local organizations —

the fire department, the Technical Relief Agency (THW), the German Red Cross (DRK), the Order of Malta, and the water rescue service (DLRG) —

also take part in running it, making it a whole-town event.

The course is based on a certified 5km loop through downtown Barmstedt and around Rantzauer See, with the 10km covering this loop twice.

Alongside these, a 2.3km elementary-school category, a 1km children's category,

and a 500m toddlers' category are also held, making the event accessible to all ages.

Recent editions have set new participation records each year, with the 2026 race recording 989 finishers, surpassing the previous record of 868 set in 2016.

Getting to the start

Bahnhof Barmstedt (AKN line A2) — approx. 300 m / 3-5 min walk to Marktplatz

Start and finish are both at the Marktplatz (market square) in central Barmstedt.

Barmstedt's AKN railway station (line A2, connecting via Elmshorn/Ulzburg toward Hamburg) is only about 300 m away via Bahnhofstraße — an easy short walk.

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

The 5 km starts at 9:10 a.m., the 10 km at 10:15 a.m., followed by the children's events during the morning.

Entry fee is priced at around €4–12 depending on the event.

Online registration is handled through STGK, the German athletics registration platform,

while paper entry forms available at local shops can also be used for in-person registration.

As the race is usually held in mid-June, registration tends to close around early June, roughly one week before race day.

If you plan to take part, it is safest to register in advance.
