The road to your own record
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.

The city you want to run becomes your next trip.

THE DREAM
Held annually on the third Sunday of January in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the largest city in the Canary Islands.
A flat urban loop course. Half marathon is one loop, full marathon is two loops.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“It’s also very nice to be running on the coast and looking out to sea.”At the Gran Canaria Marathon, the runner braved strong sea winds and picked up speed late to place ninth in 2 hours 40 minutes 57 seconds. Mixing with half marathon entrants was a drawback, but the ocean-view course and race organization earned praise.
“This is definitely one for the diary again next year.”They ran along the Las Palmas coast and the Las Canteras promenade. The second lap felt lonely after the half marathon participants dropped out, but they praised the organization and refreshments.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.
Preview the course and read what runners who went before you wrote.

The 2027 Packet Pickup location and times have not been announced.
In previous editions, distribution took place at the Runner Expo at Las Arenas Shopping Centre on the Friday and Saturday before the race, but the applicable edition has not been confirmed.
Requirements for collection, proxy collection, and same-day collection have also not been confirmed.
Just tap a foreign contactless Visa/Mastercard directly on the reader for single rides, or buy the 'Tarjeta turística LIVE' if you'll ride 4+ times in a day.
Plaza de los Derechos Humanos, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria — course also passes Auditorio Alfredo Kraus and Avenida Mesa y López
Official site (grancanariamaraton.com) is a domain-parking placeholder with no live content — no alternate official domain found.
Course format (half marathon = single loop, full marathon = loop run twice, start=finish) confirmed via Wikipedia as the standing format.
Start-point and bus-closure detail below are from older editions (~2011-2014, city press and Guaguas Municipales) —
genuinely dated, lower confidence, recommend re-verifying close to Jan 2027.
same as start — Plaza de los Derechos Humanos (loop course)
No dedicated race shuttle found.
Historically (per Guaguas Municipales city bus operator): recommended lines 9, 11, 12, 17, 33 and 91, with the Santa Catalina interchange closed to most other lines until roughly mid-morning race day.
Bono Guagua (standard rechargeable contactless card; separate from the tourist pass)
Guaguas Municipales commercial offices, bus stations (e.g. San Telmo, Santa Catalina), and local kiosks/shops around the city
Works directly at the gates
Alternative: Tarjeta turística LIVE €5.00 (24 hours) / €12.00 (72 hours), unlimited rides —
Worth it if taking roughly 4+ trips within the validity window (single cash fare is €1.40/ride);
for a single race-day trip or two, paying per-ride by contactless card or cash is cheaper.
Single fare paid to the driver in cash is €1.40.
Guaguas Global's own site confirms all vehicles accept bank debit or credit cards via NFC (Contactless),
so foreign contactless bank cards work directly without buying any card.
The Tarjeta turística LIVE can be bought at offices, via the GuaguasLPA app, or online.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
January in Las Palmas brings mild racing conditions, with average temperatures around 20C.
