From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“I knew it wouldn’t do me any good to burn myself out on the 15 mile section prior to the long stretch of flat, fast marathon on the C&O Canal towpath.”Jamie Hunyor finished 8th at the 2025 JFK 50 Mile in 5 hours, 50 minutes and 5 seconds by managing his pace on the early Appalachian Trail section and avoiding overexertion on the C&O Canal towpath.
“I ended up crossing the line in 11:33, surpassing my expectations by a long shot!”Stephanie Granlund entered the JFK 50 Mile without having recovered sufficiently. She managed her pace while passing through the Appalachian Trail and long sections of road, and completed the race in 11 hours 33 minutes, achieving a better result than expected.
“I crossed the line in 8:17:40, where Elizabeth was waiting for me.”Zack Price completed the 2016 JFK 50 Mile in 8:17:40. He changed shoes and refueled at the aid stations while covering the technical sections of the Appalachian Trail and the C&O Canal Trail. In the second half, he alternated between running and walking because of fatigue and pain, but rated the volunteers, the well-stocked aid stations, and the final road section with relatively little traffic positively.
We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.
