Yeheshan de SilvaRan in 2025

“Around the 28-kilometer mark, the relentless morning heat took a heavy, physical toll.”

After training for 128 days, Yeheshan de Silva entered the Colombo full marathon. Their pace dropped sharply in the heat after 28 km, but they finished with help from family and fellow runners.

David OstwaldRan in 2016

“With less than a kilometer to go, I was REALLY struggling to maintain the course.”

David Ostwald ran the LSR Colombo Marathon in 2016 as his first marathon in Sri Lanka. As the heat built up, he walked at times with his family cheering him on, and in the final 1K, a photographer's encouragement carried him all the way to the finish.

Dave WiseRan in 2009

“I vomit twice and reach the 30K water stop to find Uwe's prediction has come true.”

Dave Wise struggled with hot, humid weather, traffic, and a lack of water at the 30 km aid station, but found water and drinks with a fellow runner and at shops before making it to finish.

Near BMICH (Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall), Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07

Official route map marks Start Point close to BMICH, Colombo 07. No further access instructions (shuttle, parking, road closure) published. No shuttle bus or road-closure info published on official site.

Bib/kit collection held day before race (3 Oct 2026, 09:00-16:00) at Mini Grandstand Carpark, Racecourse Grounds, Colombo 07 -- separate venue from race start.

Getting to the finish

Negombo Beach Park, Negombo

Point-to-point course runs north along coast from Colombo through Wattala/Pamunugama/Uswetakeiyawa to Negombo (Full Marathon finish). Half Marathon finish separately marked near Pamunugama (~21.097km mark).

Transit card

Colombo's public buses and trains are pay-as-you-go with cash. A government pilot launched Nov 2025 lets tap-and-pay by Visa/Mastercard on select inter-provincial express routes, with plans to expand across Western Province buses by end of 2026, but this is not yet a general system tourists should count on.
