THE DREAM
The Guayaquil Marathon, founded in 2005, is Ecuador’s first World Athletics-certified marathon.
It takes place every year on the first Sunday in October during Guayaquil’s Fiestas Octubrinas.
It holds both a World Athletics label and AIMS certification, and is also a Boston Marathon qualifying race.
More than 2,000 runners take part each year, including many international athletes from Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Argentina, the United States and Kenya.
The race is jointly organised by the Municipality of Guayaquil and local sports marketing company DM3.
In addition to full marathon (42K), the event also includes 21K, 12K and 5K races.
Picture the course in advance
and find the pace that fits you.
Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“A few minutes before starting my first marathon, adrenaline was flowing through the surroundings and my body, and so many memories came flooding back.”
After dealing with a back problem, Diego prepared for their first marathon with long-distance training and recorded their experience at the 2008 Guayaquil start line.

Finish · Google MapsThe start and finish are both in front of the Municipality of Guayaquil, at the intersection of República de Guayaquil and Pichincha.
Course passes along the Guayas River waterfront promenade, Malecón 2000, as well as the tunnel section through Cerro Santa Ana,
Nueve de Octubre Boulevard, Centenario Park, San Francisco Church and Seminario Park, among Guayaquil’s best-known landmarks.
As the city lies on the low-lying plain at the mouth of the Guayas River, course is generally flat.
This may change for the next edition.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
