THE DREAM
The New Taipei Wan Jin Shi Marathon, established in 1979, is Taiwan’s only World Athletics Gold Label race.
It progressed from Bronze in 2014 and Silver in 2017 to Gold status in 2022.
Held every March along New Taipei City’s northern coast, around Wanli, Jinshan and Shimen, it attracts approximately 11,000 runners.
The programme consists of full marathon and a 10km Challenge Run,
jointly organised by the Chinese Taipei Athletics Association and the New Taipei City Government.

From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“In the end, I finished in 05:44:58 and brought the race to a close.”
毛孝鈞 completed the 2026 New Taipei Wan Jin Shi Marathon in 5 hours 44 minutes 58 seconds. 毛孝鈞 experienced the early shuttle bus and the event-site layout, then struggled with fatigue, heat, dizziness and calf cramps after the 21 km turnaround. 毛孝鈞 used the refreshments and rest areas to keep going to the finish and recorded how they felt the emotion of completing the race as they passed through the final tunnel.

The writer took on a first marathon at the 2025 New Taipei Wan Jin Shi Marathon. Heavy rain and strong winds hit before the race, and the course brought headwinds and climbs. They passed through a tunnel to reach the finish, but said the time fell short of their goal.

Grace Kuo took part in the 2024 Wanjin Marathon as her fifth full marathon. She underwent treatment while training after injuring her leg before the race, and had physiotherapy and taping two days out. The early coastal section felt comfortable, but after the 21K turnaround the headwind and fatigue built up, and she slowed down past 30K out of concern for the injury. Fighting the urge to quit on the climbs from 35K onward, she relied on the aid stations and pushed through to the finish.

The organizers state that the event may be canceled if the heat index exceeds 40, so even in early spring,
