From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“The title says a lot. It was a real struggle for survival in Münsterland, but still a wonderful experience.”
With a fellow runner's support at the Nordkirchen half marathon, the runner completed their first half marathon in 2:54:53. Knee pain forced them to alternate running and walking late on, while the residents' cheers and applause at finish left a lasting impression.

Die Überschrift sagt vieles aus - es war ein wahres Überlebensdrama im Münsterland und doch ein wunderschönes Erlebnis.

At the Nordkirchen half marathon, the runner took cues from the leaders' pace and hydration routines to cope with heat and a headwind. A strong final push brought a result close to personal best and an age-group win.

The Nordkirchen half marathon was founded in 2009, and the 2026 edition will be the 17th,
making it one of the signature local running events in Nordkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
It is organized by the local sports club FC Nordkirchen and starts on Sunday morning in early August at Schlosspark Nordkirchen Stadium,
which also serves as the club’s home ground.
Its defining feature is that runners get to race through the grounds of Nordkirchen Castle,
often called the 'Versailles of Westphalia.' Built in Baroque style as a moated castle between 1703 and 1734, it is the largest of its kind in the region.
Course begins with two laps of the stadium, then enters the castle park, passes the ornate Freitreppe (grand staircase),
heads toward the Nordkirchener Tor,
and continues through the sharp turn known as the Spitzkehre toward Oranienburg and the stud farm (gestüt) area within the park.
Full marathon is completed by running two laps of an approximately 10km Obsen loop,
and the Obsen area is a hillside farming district of Südkirchen where local residents are known for their enthusiastic roadside support every year.
Course features 7 aid station points,
making it a race where you can enjoy both the quiet beauty of the castle gardens and the energy of the countryside crowd support.

Start is at the Freitreppe (staircase) in Schlosspark Nordkirchen, a few steps from the FC Nordkirchen stadium, Am Schloßpark 3, 59394 Nordkirchen. confirmed 2026 edition (17th) ran Sunday August 2, 2026, 9:00 AM start — annual event, date shifts year to year, treated as per prior edition rather than a conflict.
Same as start — reachable only via the bus connections above; no train station in the village.
Finish is inside the FC Nordkirchen stadium at Schlosspark; course runs two ~two-lap loops through the castle park and the 'Obsen' farmland area back to the stadium.
