Race reports: 2
Treena SandersRan in 2023
“Running it with my 26yr old daughter was fun and we were running in the rain and jumping in the puddles.”

After 3 and a half months away with an injury, Trina Sanders alternated running and walking to finish the 5.4km event at the 2023 Canberra Marathon. Running through the rain and jumping puddles with her daughter felt like a major step in recovery, and she praises the facilities and volunteers.

Craig Dortkamp
“On the weekend I ran the Canberra Half Marathon.”

Craig Dortkamp took part in Canberra’s half marathon and reflected on the preparation process, having followed the coach’s training plan unlike the previous year.

We translated a short line from each public race report and summarized the experience. Finish times are as stated by the author, and past editions may differ from this year's weather and operations.

Run Canberra is a road race through major landmarks in Australia’s capital.

The event, which has continued as the Canberra Fun Run and is now making a fresh start under its current name, retains its community-focused character.

Half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, and Kids Run are held together, bringing distances from competitive long-course racing to short family runs into one event.

Sol Motive operates the race, with the local newspaper The Canberra Times also named in the event title.

The official description highlights a flat, fast road course.

With roads closed to traffic, the course passes the Old Parliament House and Parliament House,

connecting the capital’s major political and historic sites through running.

Half marathon starts on Rond Terrace and completes a course that returns to the same location twice.

The repeated section lets you see the same city views again while taking in the capital along the broad roads around Parliament House.

Except for Kids Run, course is AIMS-certified and measured according to World Athletics standards.

Half marathon also offers a race-day Wheelchair Division, broadening the ways to take part.

The organizer operates a separate channel for participants to raise funds for a charity of their choice.

It is an event where personal running connects with community and social causes,

bringing competitive runners and local participants together on the capital’s roads.

Typical race-season temperature: around 16°C (61°F)

READY TO RUN

From race morning to after the finish.

Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.

Half marathon, 10 km, and Kids Run should approach via Rond Terrace, while 5 km participants should go to the separate start area on King George Terrace.

The location for Packet Pickup on race day follows the same arrangement,

so groups with participants in different events should plan separate routes into the venue.

The official guidance includes a walking route from Russell Offices car park to the Rond Terrace area.

Allow time for the walk and for crossing at traffic lights.

For the 5 km start, parking is available at Treasury Building, Langton, and the National Library.

After the race, a free shuttle runs from Rond Terrace to the Treasury car park near the 5 km start.

Bring your own bag for bag drop and attach the separate bib from bib before checking it in.

Disposable bag-drop bags are not provided, and you are responsible for valuables.

Course has drink stations, and sports drink is provided at the finish.

Planning the order of bag collection and shuttle use will make it easier to reunite with companions taking part in another event.

Times are local to Canberra. Check the latest official information before the race.
