ABOUT THE RACE

A day you'll remember,
long past the finish line.

The race is held in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, at 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 6.

The start is at the south gate of the Olympic Center on Hunnan Zhong Road.

Half marathon runners finish on Beidi Road in front of the Shengjing Grand Theatre,

and full marathon runners finish at the Olympic Center's north gate on Tianchi Street.

The field is capped at 22,000: 10,000 for the full marathon and 12,000 for the half marathon.

If applications exceed capacity, spots are decided by lottery, and the Entry fee is refunded in full to applicants who aren't drawn.

Heat and a climb at the 30km mark forced the runner to walk for a while at the Shenyang Marathon. Resuming and accelerating late on brought a second full marathon finish with an official time in the 4 hour 6 minute range.

Course design follows a "one river, two banks" concept, crossing back and forth between the two sides of the Hun River.

In all, 90 percent of the route runs on a riverside greenway with a rubberized surface, and it's fairly flat.

Full marathon runners head out past Caixia Street and Nandi West Road, cross to the north bank of the Hun on Shengli Bridge,

then run Yangguang Road and through the Luoshiquan, Shenshuiwan, and Wulihu ecological parks.

From the 17 km mark, the route heads east, crosses Xinlibao Bridge onto the marathon-only greenway on the south bank,

and passes Changqing Bridge, Fumin Bridge, and Olympic Ecological Park to reach the finish on Tianci Street.

For the 2026 race, runners started in four waves, each with its own gun: the first (corrals S, A, and B) at 7 a.m., the second (C and D) at 7:15 a.m.,

the third (E and F) at 7:30 a.m., and the fourth (G and H) at 7:45 a.m. The start line closes 15 minutes after the last gun.

Corrals S and A are for the full marathon only;

corrals B through H mix full marathon and half marathon runners by seed time.

You can move back to a later corral but not up to an earlier one, and entries from sponsor allocations start in corral H.

Time limit, counted from your own wave's start: 6 hours for the full marathon and 3 hours for the half marathon.

For the first gun, the cut-off point times are 5 km at 7:55 a.m., 10 km at 8:30 a.m., 15 km at 9:10 a.m., 20 km at 9:50 a.m.,

the half marathon finish at 10 a.m., 25 km at 10:35 a.m., 30 km at 11:15 a.m., 35 km at 12 p.m., 40 km at 12:45 p.m., and the full marathon finish at 1 p.m.;

later waves run 15 minutes behind each.

Per a secondary (non-official) source: a satellite 'Kangping Half Marathon' race under the Shenyang Marathon umbrella has traffic control from 5:30 AM on Aug 23, 2026; the main Shenyang Marathon (Sept 6, 2026) has ~22,000 participants. No specific start/finish location, metro, or shuttle info could be confirmed for the main Sept 6 race.

IC card

Shenyang runs on a unified Shengjingtong electronic transit QR code for both bus and metro since a September 2024 consolidation, usable through WeChat, Alipay, UnionPay QuickPass, or the Shengjingtong app, replacing the older separate bus/metro cards. There is no confirmed direct contactless bank-card tap-to-pay, so mobile QR pay is the standard method for visitors.

The 2026 race started at 7 a.m. on September 6, in four waves 15 minutes apart. Check-in and bag-drop deadlines varied by corral.

Check the entry requirements

As of 2026, full marathon runners had to be at least 20 and half marathon runners at least 18, and both needed proof of a recent result.

  • Full marathon entrants needed one full marathon finish or two half marathon finishes within the 24 months before entries closed.
  • Half marathon entrants needed two results from races of 10 km or longer in the same period.
  • If applications exceeded capacity, spots were decided by lottery; in 2026, the caps were 10,000 for the full marathon and 12,000 for the half marathon.
  • You had to pick up your bib in person with ID—no proxies—and there was no race-morning pickup.

Getting to the start area by metro

On race day, Shenyang Metro moved the first train on every line up to 5 a.m.

Aid stations every 2.5 km

Drink stations are available every 5 km, water stations from 7.5 km onward every 5 km, and energy supplies from 12.5 km onward.

  • There are separate stations for local food and water-spray points, and shower misters are also installed depending on the weather.
  • Portable toilets are available every 2.5 km, and fixed medical stations every 2 km.

Preparing for the 29–35 km section

The course follows both banks of the Hun River and has plenty of shade.

  • The 29–35 km section has a series of climbs and descents with no shade from the sun.
  • Xinlibao Bridge is nicknamed the "Devil's Bridge."
  • Once the cut-off point time passes, the timing mats are switched off and roads reopen.

Prohibited items

Security checks will flag drones, lighters and unofficial pace signs.

  • Bikes, scooters, strollers, inline skates, and pets aren't allowed in the race area.
  • Drones, remote-controlled toys, lighters and matches are also prohibited.

Recovery after the finish

The finish area has an ice-bath recovery zone and a traditional Chinese medicine clinic, with free stretching sessions.
