It is one of the UK's representative mountaineering competitions.

Streets lined with cheers, runners all around.
You'll be part of that scene.
Take it slow with the finish still in you,
and meet the city all over again.
From the joy of finishing to the tough moments — read what runners wrote themselves.
“I’d smashed every time expectation I had but just needed to refuel and be immobile for a little while.”James Norton built up long training runs for the 2017 Snowdonia Trail Marathon, then endured tired legs over rough terrain and mountain climbs. Despite a brief late stop, they finished just under 5 hours, 30 minutes, far ahead of expectations, and placed 87th by chip time among 660 finishers.
“But, importantly, I knew that having made the climb, I could definitely finish.”Ben ran the Snowdonia Trail Marathon as a first marathon, struggling on the mountain climb when their fueling plan went wrong and they ran short of water and energy. They took several breaks on the ascent, fought their way down, and kept going to finish in 5 hours, 46 minutes, 28 seconds.

The Snowdonia Trail Marathon Eriri, which starts from Llanberis, a mountain village in northern Wales,
in the heart of Eriri (Snowdonia) National Park, is considered one of the leading mountain running competitions in the UK.
This competition, hosted by Always Aim High Events and held in conjunction with the
Course was designed in the form of a large loop around the Yr Wyddfa (Mt. Snowdon) Massif, the highest mountain in England and Wales.
Starting from Llanberis, you pass through Rhyd Ddu, Beddgelert, Nant Gwynant, and Pen y Pass in succession.
The long-distance course actually includes a section that climbs to the foot of Mount Snowdon,
allowing you to enjoy panoramic views of the lakes, valleys, and ridges of Eriri National Park.
The Eriri region has long been called the mecca of British mountain marathons,
and the mountain running competitions held in this area are said to be continuing the tradition of being selected as 'Britain's best marathon' in a reader poll for the UK version of Runner's World.
However, this XTERRA Snowdonia Trail Marathon Eriri (held in July) should not be confused with the traditional 'Marathon Eriri' (formerly Snowdonia Marathon),
which was founded in 1982 and is held every October.
Due to the combination of the rugged terrain and the unpredictable weather in the Welsh mountains,
completing the race itself is considered an achievement, and Llanberis,
where finish is located, is full of the unique energy of mountain marathons throughout the competition period,
as it is the village of cut-off point for climbing Mt. Snowdon.

Based on the previous year, pre-registration opened around September through the Let’s Do This platform, with the 2026 event held on September 11.

Because of the mountain terrain, participants are often required to carry essential equipment such as a waterproof jacket and spare clothing.
