We have not confirmed the start line coordinates yet. The map shows the host city.
The 77K Khunzum La Challenge, full marathon (42.195K), half marathon and 10K take place across the three Himalayan villages of Kaza,
Nako and Sumdo from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30.
Full marathon starts at 4:30 am on August 30 from Nako Helipad and finishes in Sumdo as a one-way course.
Half marathon and the 10K start from Sumdo PT Ground at 7:30 am and 9:00 am respectively, returning to the same location.
The 77K starts in Kaza and passes through finish, with time limit at 6:30 pm and full marathon time limit at 12:30 pm.
Spiti Valley sits above 3,800m, so the organisers recommend arriving 3–4 days early to acclimatise.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
Only personal pickup is allowed; proxy pickup is not permitted.
Bring the original of a government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar card, driver's license, etc.).
A health check and liability waiver signature are required at pickup, and bib will not be issued if you are deemed unfit.
8/22 (Sat) - 8/27 (Thurs) 10:00 - 17:00
Carry cash — pay for HRTC bus tickets onboard or at the bus stand counter, and pay shared-jeep/taxi drivers in cash at the Kaza taxi stand for getting around town and to nearby villages.
Full Marathon (42.195K) starts Nako Helipad (04:30, 30 Aug); Half Marathon and 10K start Sumdo PT Ground (07:30/09:00, 30 Aug)
3-day multi-category event (Fri 28-Sun 30 Aug 2026) across three Himalayan villages (Kaza, Nako, Sumdo).
Spiti Valley sits above 3,800m — organizers recommend arriving 3-4 days early to acclimatize.
Nearest airport Bhuntar/Kullu-Manali (~245-250km via Manali);
nearest rail Shimla (~418-445km).
77K finishes Kaza (cutoff 18:30); Marathon finishes Sumdo (point-to-point from Nako, not a loop, cutoff 12:30); Half/10K finish at Sumdo PT Ground (loop)
Marathon finishers end in Sumdo, not back at Nako start — need separate transport back to accommodation.
No race-morning start/finish shuttle documented.
Only a pre/post-event long-haul 'Traveller Service' (Zirakpur→Sumdo→Kaza→Zirakpur) for reaching the region,
not race-day shuttle between accommodation and start/finish.
Confirm directly with organizers (suryaspitimarathon@gmail.com, +91-70061 22107).
Two road routes to Kaza: Shimla-Reckong Peo-Kaza (~430km, near year-round) or Manali-Rohtang-Kunzum Pass-Kaza (~200km, seasonal Jun-Oct, foreigners need Inner Line Permit on this route).
Seasonal HRTC state buses run Shimla-Kaza and Manali-Kaza.
Kaza has no organized in-town public transit and no fare card of any kind — a cash-only, informal-transport town.
Intercity connections rely solely on seasonal HRTC buses (e.g., Manali-Kaza runs June-October, weather-dependent).
Within Kaza, transport is by shared jeep or private taxi, fares starting around ₹25/km.
Card acceptance and ATMs are unreliable in Spiti Valley generally — bring enough cash from Manali/Shimla/Reckong Peo before heading in.
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
The Suryah Spiti Marathon is an AIMS-certified race held at altitudes of 11,000–15,000 feet (approximately 3,350–4,570m) in the Himalayan Spiti Valley.
The thin air and rugged terrain require prior acclimatisation.
The four events are the Kunzum La Challenge, full marathon, half marathon and a 10km dash.
The time limit are set at 6:30 p.m., 12:30 p.m., 10 a.m. and 9 a.m., respectively.
Times are local to Kaza. Check the latest official information before the race.
