Samuel Carpentier took on the Ultra Trail Grand Colombier’s 80km course with 3300m of climbing for the first time, finishing in 11 hours 37 minutes after several steep ascents and a final 13km descent. It took a lot out of him, but he enjoyed the beautiful Bugey region, pleasant weather, warm welcome, and race atmosphere.

Ultra Trail Grand Colombier is a mountaineering competition that connects ridges, forests, and valleys in the Buget region of France.
The long street course passes through several villages and rises to the ridge of Grand Colombier.
A narrow path in the forest, a path around farmland, and a terrain with lakes and waterfalls connect the boundaries between mountains and villages.
The representative event, 120km course, has a cumulative altitude gain of 5,000m.
Starting from the old streets of Belley, we pass through Arbois-en-Busées and hilly villages with vineyards and forests.
Near Inimon, you can see a sloping mountain road and a view of Bujet, and on the Hauteville Plateau, meadows and forests spread out widely.
Finally, it leads to Quilos near the Rhone River.
The 30km trail takes a route up from Sessel towards Grand Colombier.
It is a sport that starts from a riverside village and moves to the mountains and forests, and Corbono,
a grape growing area, and Anglesfort at the foot of the mountain appear in the description of course.
The shorter gravel run runs along the Rhone River, while the 10km event is centered around Quilloz.
Depending on the sport, whether the weight is placed on the mountain ridge or the riverside varies.
In the long-distance category, there are not only individual races but also team relays.
Each runner completes the entire route as a team, covering parts of the mountainous terrain.
Rather than aiming only at the summit of one mountain,
this competition shows the long route that connects the highlands of Busee, rural areas, and the riverside.

The reference point for the trip is the En Verbau leisure area in Quilogs-Béon.
Bib is picked up at the gym in this area, and shuttles to the start points for long and middle distance events also leave from here.
Since the starting point for each event is different, such as Belle, Contrevaux, Hauteville Plateau,
and Sessel, please distinguish between the place where you received bib and your starting point.
For races other than 10km, you can leave your luggage at the starting point or Quilos Packet Pickup location.
Attach the tag you received with bib to your bag, and get your luggage back at the Quiloz final area.
The midway bag for the 120km individual event is accepted separately from the general storage baggage on Packet Pickup.
The organizer does not provide bags, so you must tag your own bag.
The tennis gym in the leisure area is open as a relaxation area for 120km and 80km participants.
You can use it the day before without a reservation, but only if there are remaining seats.
For these two individual events, a meal is included upon arrival, and for the other events, you apply separately during registration.
Shuttle rides, baggage retrieval, and rest are all centered around Quilos.
Times are local to Culoz. Check the latest official information before the race.
