Paris Marathon 2027: should you enter the ballot?
Free applications until September 30, 2026; drawing on October 1; 72 hours to pay €169. What the end of first-click registration means for a first marathon—and the two routes that do not depend on luck.
What if I click too late? For years, that was the real anxiety ahead of the Paris Marathon: the bib filled quickly, and the price rose with each registration tier—€135 at the 2026 First tier, then €155 at the next level.
For the 50th edition, on Sunday, April 4, 2027, the race to be first to click is gone. The lottery opened at 2 p.
m. on September 8, 2026, and closes at 11:59 p.
m. on September 30, with no payment required.
The drawing takes place on October 1. Questions remain for anyone lining up for a first marathon: enter alone or with a group, wait for the lottery or choose a route that does not depend on chance.
1Lottery applications: September 8–30, with no payment required

The application window runs from 2 p.m. on September 8, 2026, through 11:59 p.
m. on September 30. Applications are submitted on the official platform, and no payment is required at this stage: nothing is binding until a place is awarded in the lottery.
The fundamental change can be summed up in one sentence. Under the old system, being among the first to arrive meant both a place and a lower price. With the lottery, an application submitted on the evening of September 29 carries the same weight as one submitted at 2:01 p.
m. on the first day. Organizers gave a simple rationale: the old system created stress, while the lottery should make access less stressful.
For a runner discovering the distance, that is good news—with one condition. No one will remind runners about the deadline. The only real risk now is forgetting September 30.

2Results announced October 1, followed by 72 hours to pay for the bib

The drawing takes place on October 1, 2026. Selected runners receive confirmation from that date onward, and the countdown starts immediately: 72 hours to pay for the bib. After that deadline, the place is not held.
It goes to other applicants. Seventy-two hours is three days. That sounds generous until the message arrives during a trip, a weekend without a connection or a busy week at work.
The return of unpaid places has one consequence that is easy to overlook. Not being selected on October 1 does not necessarily mean the door is closed for good. But nothing announced so far says how many places will return or when.
Monitor email in the days after October 1, including the spam folder.
32027 entry fee: 169 €, one price for all entrants

The bib 2027 costs €169, a single fixed price. In 2026, the marathon used tiered pricing: €135 for the fastest applicants, followed by €155. The new price is higher than both of those initial tiers, but every runner selected in the draw pays the same amount.
Two adjustments apply. Runners with an FFA licence receive a 5% discount, or just over €8 off. And for those deciding between the two distances, the half marathon de Paris, held on 7 March 2027, will also use a lottery, with a single entry fee of €79.
For a first-time marathoner, the change is in how the budget has to be planned. Speed on the keyboard no longer offers an advantage, and the cost is known from the outset if the draw goes in a runner's favor. The finisher's shirt is now optional.
The amount is known in advance. It is the only figure in the entry process that has nothing to do with chance.
4Apply as a group of two to six: either everyone gets in or no one does

The form allows runners to enter alone or in groups of two to six. The rule fits in one line, but it carries real weight: if one member is selected, the entire group is selected. For a first marathon, that can be the ideal setup.
Training has been shared for months, the goal is the same start line, and nobody wants to be the only one watching the race from the sidewalk. The group eliminates exactly that possibility. The downside is less obvious.
A selected group means as many as six people are suddenly committed to racing on 4 April 2027. The person who was still undecided is left with a bib to pay—or give up. Before submitting the group entry, ask each member directly: are you racing on 4 April, yes or no?
5Bib entry: no lottery, but at least €505

This is the only route that completely avoids the lottery. The process is simple: choose a partner charity, explain the motivation in a short form, and let the charity decide whether to accept the application. In 2026, 60 charities took part.
The cost has two parts. First, €85 in participation fees, paid to activate the fundraising page. That fee is non-refundable, does not count toward the target and is not eligible for a tax deduction.
Then comes a minimum of €420 in donations for the charity; those donations may be tax-deductible. The place is confirmed once that threshold has been reached. At least €505 therefore has to be raised or paid, including €420 from friends, family or personal funds.
As of mid-September 2026, applications for 2027 had not yet opened: the dedicated website says registration will open soon and offers an alert service. For a first marathon, this route provides something the lottery cannot. It connects months of training to a cause and puts the decision in the hands of someone who has read the application.
6Who qualifies for the 50 € Dossard Passerelle

Organizers have introduced a solidarity rate, the bib Passerelle, at €50 for the marathon. It is available to recipients of RSA or AAH benefits, students receiving grants and jobseekers, subject to eligibility requirements and limited places. The difference from the standard rate is €119.
For someone looking for work while preparing for a first 42.195 km, that can be the difference between considering the race and entering it. The number of places and the required documents should be checked in the official terms. For anyone who qualifies, this is the first page to open, before completing the standard form.
7Official resale, new organizer, course to be unveiled in early 2027

Three other changes come with the lottery. The first affects runners who secure a place and later cannot race: an official resale platform is being introduced. An injury in February will no longer automatically mean a lost bib.
The second concerns the race's management. Cadence Running United will succeed ASO, which has overseen the event since 1998, for the 2027 to 2030 editions. The title partner is changing too: the race will become the ASICS Marathon de Paris, while Schneider Electric remains a partner.
The third leaves everyone waiting. The course 2027 will be unveiled in early 2027 and is then expected to remain unchanged for several editions. The total number of places has not been announced either.
Runners are therefore entering without knowing the course or the size of the field, for a race that saw 53,899 runners cross the finish line in 2024. For a first-time marathoner, the course matters less than it might seem at this stage. Paris is not chosen for one turn; it is chosen for the city.
The course will arrive in early 2027, just as training plans begin to take shape.
Editor's pick
For a first marathon, submit an application by September 30, 2026, even if there is still some doubt: it costs nothing, and the commitment begins only with payment. Apply as a group only with runners who have already committed to April 4, 2027; otherwise, enter alone. If Paris is nonnegotiable—if it has to be this city and no other for a first marathon—do not put everything on October 1.
In parallel, prepare the bib entry, whose applications have not yet opened, and work out the €420 fundraising target with the people who will support the effort. If eligible for the Passerelle rate, start there. The lottery is the lottery; what remains within a runner's control is checking the right boxes on time.
There is only one immediate task: submit the application by September 30, 2026, at 23 h 59, then keep the days after October 1 free for payment within 72 hours. Everything else—the course, field size and training plan—will come in early 2027.
