“I finished in 50 minutes and few seconds.”

The runner took part in the 10km race at the 2013 Amman International Marathon for the third time. The runner took many photos while running and could not focus on the time, and was confused because the changed course had not been checked in advance.

“Unfortunately, it turned out that I finished the race in 50:35.”

The runner took part in the 2012 Amman International Marathon for the second time and finished the 10 km in 50 minutes and 35 seconds. They thought the medal collection process in the finish area was better than the previous year, and they were pleased to improve their ranking from 399th to 199th.

The start line of the Amman Marathon is located near the Greater Amman Municipality headquarters, while finish is next to the ancient Roman Amphitheatre.

Course runs through the centre of Amman's old city.

There are three race distances: full marathon, half marathon and 10km.

A separate 4km Fun Run is also held for children.

The race is organised by the Jordanian non-profit Run Jordan.

Getting to the start

Near Al Hussein Sports City / Hashemite Arena area (sources vary by distance category). Amman has no metro (BRT is a separate, unrelated project under construction).

Per prior edition (Oct 17, 2025): organizer buses shuttle Marathon (42.195K) and Half Marathon (21K) runners to their starting point; 10K runners walk to the start from the gathering point. Rely on the official event shuttle system rather than public transit, given no metro exists.

Getting to the finish

After the race, organizer buses shuttle all participants from the celebration/finish area back to the gathering point.

Official RunJordan shuttle buses both directions: gathering point to start line (Marathon/Half only), finish celebration area back to gathering point (all distances). Drivers directed to park at Al Hussein Sports City in a marked designated area.

Transit card

Amman has an actual bus/BRT network (fare ≈ 0.55 JD/ride) using a rechargeable card (1 JD card fee + loaded credit). The 'Amman Bus' app lets you buy a QR-code ticket directly with a credit card, avoiding the card fee — an app purchase, not a tap-on-reader system.

Uber/Careem operate in Amman and are the far simpler option for most tourists.

The organizer, Run Jordan, also operates several marathons across Jordan.

Around 20,000 runners take part in the Amman Marathon each year.

The race was launched in 2009 under the patronage of King Abdullah II.

Amman is spread across elevations ranging from 700 to 1,100 m.

Because the elevation varies considerably across the city, the climate differs noticeably from one area to another.

The western and northern parts have a hot, dry Mediterranean climate in summer, while the eastern and southern parts are semi-arid.

Most rainfall occurs between November and April, while the rest of the year is generally dry.

The race is held every fall.
