The Red Sea half marathon Marathon is a road race run in Aqaba, Jordan.
The Jordan Marathon Association and the Ayla Oasis Development Company are holding an event together,
using the tourist city on the Red Sea coast as a running stage.
The main event, half marathon, and the shorter distance, Kids Run, are organized in one event,
so adult participants and their families can participate in their own way.
Although the name refers to the Red Sea, it is a separate event from the separate long-distance relay race that runs from the Dead Sea to the Red Sea.
The background introduced by the official partner is the scenery and sports space of Isla Oasis.
This is an area with paths and sports facilities for running and cycling,
and the half marathon Marathon is one of the annual events that takes advantage of that environment.
The intersection of coastal city recreation and road running creates the character of the event.
If you know the relationship between Aqaba and Ayla rather than which historical buildings you pass through and how many times,
it will be easier to understand why the competition is held in this location.
The purpose of the event is to increase local sports participation and spread a healthy lifestyle culture.
Run for a Cause, launched by Run Jordan, is linked to activities that support charities,
and Ayla also includes local community participation and support for Jordan runners in the event's purpose.
It is a competition where local participants and visiting runners meet in one course.
It can be read as Aqaba's running tradition that ties together not only distance running competition but also local sport and social contribution.
Pick up your bib, check your wave.
So on race morning, you can just run.
It has been confirmed to be held on Friday, December 4, 2026, but official information regarding the location, time, and required documents has not yet been released.
Get around Aqaba by taxi (agree on/confirm the fare, and clarify total vs. per-person, before riding) or on foot — there is no tourist-oriented public transit card or fare-gate system.
Inside the Ayla project, Al Farouk Street near the Ayla Al Farouk gate, Aqaba, Jordan
Runners begin inside the Ayla development, exit via the main gate onto Al Farouk Street, then head toward the Intercontinental Hotel;
route turns at McDonald's circle onto King Hussein Bin Talal Street.
No metro/train exists in Aqaba.
Great Arab Revolt Square (Sahat Al Thawra), Red Sea waterfront, central Aqaba
Aqaba's central public square directly on the seafront, within walking distance of most hotels along the corniche.
Run Jordan operates an optional long-distance coach between Amman and Aqaba for out-of-town participants (extra 15 JD each way),
departing from the Jet parking area near the 7th Circle in Amman ~7:30am;
seats must be confirmed with organizers in advance.
No dedicated race-morning local shuttle from Aqaba hotels to the start was found —
given the short distance between Ayla, the hotel strip, and Revolution Square, most runners walk or taxi.
Nearest airport is King Hussein International Airport (AQJ), ~10km from city center.
Road closures/traffic diversions expected on race morning.
Aqaba has local minibuses (flat fare ≈ 0.17 JD) but no tourist-friendly route maps and visitors rarely use them.
Taxis (colored green/blue in Aqaba) are the standard way to get around, typically cash-only, roughly 2 JD for a ride within town.
Uber/Careem are NOT available in Aqaba.
JETT intercity buses connect Aqaba-Amman (≈ 8-12 JOD).
Your start time, fuel and bag drop.
Know them ahead and the run feels easier.
Aid stations are located at the start, finish and course every 3km.
Temperatures in Aqaba in December generally range from 20°C to 25°C, reflecting the mild winter climate on the Red Sea coast.
The event is organised jointly by the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority and Run Jordan, and attracts close to 2,000 runners each year.
The organisers present it as an opportunity to experience Jordan’s Red Sea coastline and promote healthy lifestyles and sports culture.
Aqaba is a cut-off point city for visitors travelling to Wadi Rum and Petra, as well as a duty-free special economic zone.
It is accessible via King Hussein International Airport and is home to Aqaba Port, Jordan’s only international seaport.
Times are local to Aqaba. Check the latest official information before the race.
